What are you guys replacing your OEM recievers with?? On mine, the hole the pin goes through is getting wallowed out.

I wish there was a replacement, isn't the factory hitch only rated for 10k lbs? Pretty annoying because a lot people pull a heavier trailer then that on the factory reciever

There are a few out there.... but no one seems to know what has to be done to actually replace one!!

Here is the hitch you want. You still keep the factory hitch cross tube in place but you cut off the receiver.

I've looked into this a bit too. Putnam make a class V that requires you to cut the receiver off like mentioned before. Reese/Drawtite/Hidden Hitch (they merged I beleive) make a class V that mount under the existing receiver and you end up with two (kind of stupid). My question is does the cross member have to stay that is built into the factory receiver? Why is the Reese receiver almost double the cost of what the Putman is? The Reese appears to be much more stout if you are looking to put strongest one on there.

My truck came without a hitch. The dealer installed a Curt Class 3 hitch without having to cut or alter anything.

I don't think you have to have the cross tube under there to use the Putnam. But it just adds that much more strength to the frame and the new hitch. It makes an almost indestructible combo in my opinion.

I can't speak for the Reese. But I can almost guarantee you that your truck is not going to be capable of pulling anything that will hurt the factory/Putnam combo like I have installed........and like PourinDiesel shows in the pics in the thread above. He sled pulls with his, by the way. And I have a couple of times myself. Do you plan on towing more than 35,000lbs of dead weight??

Why would a dealer install a Class 3 hitch on a 3/4 ton truck? What were they thinking?

Our puny factory receiver hitches are Class 4 hitches!

IMO, they should all come with a minimum Class 5.

I don't disagree...strong enough is strong enough. However, I thought I read on the Putnam sight that their hitch had to be integrated with the factory one. If that is the case I was wondering if you could achieve the same thing (strength wise) by installing the reese which does require the fab work? Maybe Reese had to add the extra steel to meet class V spec where Putman did it with less steel utilizing existing receiver. Mike
