I'm looking to replace the hose from the hard lines along my frame to my injector pump. I don't know what the deal is, buy my local Napa doesn't seem to know whether or not their fuel hose is rated for diesel fuel. So, I'm thinking McMaster-Carr.

http://www.mcmaster.com Go to page 218. Scroll to the third type of hose, and look at the SAE 30R7 on the left side. That appears to the stuff we should be using, right? Go back to the top of the page, and click on the "Additional Information" for petroleum hose link. Look at the chart and choose Diesel Fuel on the 4th Row, and 54605K (p/n for fuel hose on pg 218) on the 15th column. It says A(5), which means diesel fuel has no effect on the hose, but it is not recommended for curb pump applications. I guess a curb pump would be a fuel dispenser, transfer pump, etc?

Well, what do you think? What sizes do we need again?

3/8 id hose and 5/16 id hose. 4 feet will be just about enough for the 5/16 (personally I would get 5 ft) hose. A little less for the 3/8ths . Thats if you remove the braided portion that meets the metal line at the frame. If you keep that braided portion in place, then 2ft each will be plenty.

I have read the descriptions from Mcmaster-carr before. I seem to recall statements like "rated for lubricating and fuel oils". Diesel fuel is a "fuel oil" so I would read that as good to go.

It all depends on what amount of $$ you want to spend. It sounds like what you described is good. Might want to consider this fuel hose offerred here as well: www.fostertruck.com. KD

I usually replace the lines with new hose all the way from the engine to the tank and abandon the stock lines entirely. Takes about 12' each of 3/8" and 5/16" hose on an X-cab BUT measure first.

Best place to find high quality USCG rated diesel hose is from a place that works on marine engines.

Summit has a kit for like 80 bucks that includes all fitting and 20 ft of braided stainless line. I used it on my truck and it works killer.

Hey,
having the same trouble, rough start over night etc. Snuck up on me, you know ignore it at first till got bad enough to be obvious. Anyway, big fan of SS braid stuff, but, does the rubber liner get any better? Or do you just abraision resistance? Anyway, I to would like the PN to that kit. Thanks

Problem I've had with braided SS hose is that it saws though anything it touches.
USCG rated hose is heavy duty stuff, should easily last the life of your truck.
