How hard is it to remove the bed on a 2nd gen like my 96's? What has to be done and about how long does it take? I've got a front end loader on my tractor to help. What have others used?

Not too difficult. You just need to remove the bolts securing the bed to the frame and disconnect the wiring for the tail/brake lights.

I removed my bed (with the over-the-rail toolbox still in it) when I replaced my fuel sending unit. 4 guys had it off and on the ground easily.

Really easy, and two guys can lift it off its a short bed.

With air tools and a loader or forklift it takes about 15 minutes till the bed is off.

I had mine off a couple of weeks ago and it was easy. If I were you I'd get a blanket and some thick towels to put between the bed/cab and rear bumper/bed if you're going to be using a loader. It might get kind of squirrely on you and start banging around on important things.

Me and two other guys lifted mine off with a tool box in the bed. Just pull the six bolts, the ground strap, filler neck and the two main plugs for the tail lights. Took me ten mins to get it off with a lift.

did it over the summer to my brothers truck. Like everyone else said 6 bolts, taillights, fuel filler, and cab to bed ground wire. Used a bobcat loader with forks. Pretty straightforward except we needed a torch to get off a couple of the bolts they were rusted so bad! And you can only get an impact on 2 of the 6

You need to try harder, unless the newer trucks are different, the lower frame rail at the back has a hole in it to put the socket up through.

yeah, used an impact on all of my bed bolts, used to be pro mechanic, did'nt like that manual stuff to much, loosin' money that way.

I guess that I must be blind, I couldn't find all of the bolts when I contemplated removing the truck's bed two years ago. I installed a Vulcan draw straw in the fuel tank and ended up having to drop the tank. Even with a Dodge service manual I couldn't find access to all of the bolts.
