Removed the Comp Now Truck Runs Great

I have been complaining for over a year now that my truck has no power and eats fuel like I eat cake. I took the Comp off today to send it in for the Drag upgrade and now my truck runs great. I forgot how well this truck drives when it's runnin right. I don't know what goes bad with these Comp boxes but I sure hope this upgrade fixes it. When I installed the box way back when I could feel some differance but nothing drastic and as time went it just went to crap. My question here is, is there anything on my truck that could be bad that would affect how it runs with the comp installed. I always assumed that with electronics they either worked or didn't work and this seemed to go bad gradually.

It sounds like your injection pump is getting weak. My buddy and I just hooked the wire up on his comp and there is a very big difference in power.

I know I, or rather my young-un is going to change the pump cause it's gotta be bad. But this truck runs great and has all it's original power now without the Comp. I even hooked up a trailer just to try it out and it even has it's old pulling power back now. I have been holding off on the pump cause when I talked to one of the vendors listed on this site about getting a pump he told me that as soon as I install it there is no warranty on it since my pump wire is peirced. That kinda ****** me off and I put the project on hold. I am hoping that is not standard practice.

Still looking for anymore ideas on this, and from any of you that have changed you IP's is this warranty thing standard or was this just the one vendor that has this policy.

did you get the Drag Comp yet?
One thing I found was to ground the Comp to the battery (or the left front fender with the wire to the neg battery lead. That got rid of a nasty intermittent stumble I had with my Comp.

When you get the box back.. see if that helps.. but find the wire going into the box from the MAP sensor... check the voltage going into the box.. and check the voltage leaving... I had one that was not sending the voltage out to the ECU.. (Voltage in.. no voltage out)
Good Luck

It toasted the stock clutch as soon as I clipped the wire on, but I never really felt like it made that dramatic of a difference that everybody keeps talking about. I sent it in to be upgraded to the Drag version and when i got it put back in the truck, HOLY COW WHAT A DIFFERENCE. The original chip wasn't giving me anything of what it was supposed to be. Right off the bat I put it on 5 x 5 went to start in 3rd, just to test the tires ya know, built up the RPM's, popped the clutch and didn't move, even this fancy Con clutch just sat and spun until I let off of it. Anybody in doubt of your box performance, if your in doubt it's bad send it back.

The IP warranty is void the second you touch the wire. It doesn't matter where you get it from. The only way around this problem is to pick up a pump cover from Blue Chip Diesel or BD.

I'm just getting the money together now to order a pump and cover from Blue Chip. Says he warranties the pump for one year if I use his cover for it.

Seems like alot of Comp problems here lately. Used to be never a bad word about the company, even when some body had a problem they bent over backwards to correct it, but now there seems to be more product problems and they aren't trying so hard to fix them anymore. Even with my upgrade they told it was a 1 day turn around but it took two weeks to get it back, must of been some awfull slow mail. Now that it works right though I do love what the box does, no compaints there.

I have a loaner that I let my customers use when something like this happens...
