how to remove stock exhaust

Hey guys, I was wanting to upgrade to a 4inch turbo back exhaust. And I was wondering if there is away for me to remove my stock exhaust without cutting any of the piping.

not really, your going to have to cut some of it. you can try unbolting all of the hangers from the frame and then unbolt the downpipe from the turbo, but it will be a hassle to get the whole thing out from underneath the truck without cutting it. i would just cut it in a one or two sections then unbolt the downpipe and then pull the rubber mounts off the hangers

I want to cut it off but my friend wants to take it off my hands because he just got fine for running a straight pipe.

i see, cut it right before the muffler and right after the muffler. use a flat head screw driver to stretch out the rubber mounts on the hangers then pull off the tail pipe section. then do the same for the mounts on the cat and the rest of the sections for the pipe to the turbo, then unbolt the downpipe from the turbo. then go buy some pipe from the store to hook up the cat to the tail pipe section for your friends truck. he should be able to get away with out having the muffler on. its pretty much just cat back exhaust and thats probably what they fined him for, not having a cat.

or if you want you could just cut the cat off your truck, cut out a section on his, then weld it on

No cats on a 24v, its just a resonator.

I'm just going to take it to the exhaust shop and have them torch it or cut it off. Whatever left of the muffler my buddy can have it.

ohh didnt know that, then again i never really had my stock exhaust on long enough to look at it. learn something new everyday

What size is the stock exhaust on these trucks anyway? Anyone ever just straight piped and removed resonator rather then buying a whole new system? Just curious as to how it would sound compared to the system

it is 3in with a 4in tip off the tail pipe. it sounds ok to me, but i will be getting a system soon. i like the more deeper sound

My 12v came with a 3" straight pipe. Sounded good, like a tractor. I probably would have kept it that way, but I put the exhaust off my dually on it that had a wicked drone so I could put in my 62mm turbo. So to hedge my bets against the drone, I put the muffler in. Its nice to have a quiet truck from time to time. When I get the need for noise, I just drive the dually. A two hour drive on the highway in that thing fixes me up for months.
