How to remove 12 valve injector pump

Having to remove pump to get the dang fuel on, and off valve out. What is the step to remove and replace ? I keep hearing about Pinning? Does it have timeing marks on the pump, do I have to get number 1 on tdc? When should valves need to be adj? I have 250,000, bought it used have no idea what are what has not been down to the 12 valve, its' a 92 2 wheel drive. Any advice is appreciated , Thanks

You shouldn't have to pull the pump to get the shutoff solenoid/'on off valve' out. Use a die grinder on the pump bracket piece that sticks up in the way of a big wrench that is needed to loosen the solenoid. That portion of the bracket is not necessary on our trucks. With it removed, you can easily get a wrench on it. If not die grinder, a big set of vice grips, attached to the top of said bracket, start bending it back and forth to where it will start bending at the pump and hopefully break off. This would be a side of the road deal.

FWIW, no need to have the engine at TDC. The pump will only go on one way. Engine is keyed (pump gear) and the pump is keyed (shaft).

I think the book says to adjust valves every 48k. If you don't know when they were adjusted, do them NOW.

Thanks Bill, I have already took the bracket off, try vise grips , etc, it will not move not even one thread.. sooo you are saying that the pump will come off just by undoing bolts, only goes on one way and don't have line up going back?... a $80.00 valve costing me alot of down time.

No I was just telling you how to remove the shutdown solenoid. Do you have an air compressor with a die grinder, cut off wheel or dremel tool? I would cut that bracket down so you can remove the solenoid and not have to go through the trouble of removing the entire pump.

rap the side of it with a bar and hammer then put some vise grips on it real tight I have removed dozens of them and you dont need to pull the pump. it will come. it only needs to move a tinny bit and its loose.

if you want to pull the pump its strait forward use a steering wheel puller on the gear under the nut behind the oil fill tube make sure Key way is up so it dont fall in the gears mark the pump position so its right back where it was pull all the hard wear off the 3rd bolt be hind the pump you need a 90*13 mm wrench
