Remote Start and 3 Cyl/High Idle
Just wondering if anyone had a remote start? If so what kind?
I plan to plug in when at home but still would like to remote start to give everything some pre-run time. Also when at work i cant plug in so it would help give everything time to lube up and warm some before driving off.
As for the 3 cyl/high idle.. I read all about what it is and how/why it all works BUT i noticed everything i read said "If its enabled"... How do i enable it if it isn't already?
Thanks!

The 3 cylinder high idle function has to be done with the DRB scan tool from Dodge. They should do it for free, but probably will try to charge you some fee for hooking up...

I have an astro start 2 way starter works great. Make sure who ever installs it ties it into the wait to start light for the cold weather days, that or they can set it up to delay after the ignition is on like 30 seconds or what ever you want. For the 3 cylinder idle, find someone close with a smarty, that will enable it thats what I did at one of our meets.

I bought a $49 remote from http://www.jcwhitney.com just for the remote door locks but ended up installing the whole thing.
Been working excellent for over ten years. Has diesel engine and grid heater features.
Last I looked they still sell the same one only now it's $79
Beware that no matter what kind you buy the install isn't plug and play.
It's rather involved.

i have a code 3 "alarm" with remote start... remote start works great, however the high idle/3 cylinder warm up requires the key to be in the ignition & on (at least that's how mine works with the smarty)

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I noticed that Infidel mentioned his system had a grid heater feature. Any idea if these kits will cycle the ignition a couple times to allow the system to heat up well enough OR is that what the "grid heater feature" covers?
Wild4kst8 I of coarse dont know about that part but i hope not. I would like it to go into these idle modes when i am at work and want her to warm up.

The 3 cylinder idle can be turned on by anyone with the right model Smarty for your truck. All it takes is to
1:Set their truck to stock to unlock the Smarty from it.
2.connect it your truck, and put in a tune. All the tunes have 3 cyl enabled.. 3. Set your truck back to stock, unlocking the VIN lock to your truck.
4.Then they can retune their truck.
Result: You will the have 3 cylinder enabled.

i think GotStacks is asking 2 questions: remote start & high idle/3 cyl warm-up
not sure the exact programming for high idle/3 cyl warm-up... but if smarty is using the same programming the remote start will NOT engage high idle/3 cyl. unless the programming changed with the REVO update, remote start works but the high idle will not kick in... been there done that...
as others have said... high idle/3 cyl. is available thru dealer updating the programming or finding someone with a smarty to update the programming

I was asking 2 questions, how to get them both to work AND how they work together. Thanks for all the info!
Per Infidel's suggestion i looked up the 79$ jobby and found they had THIS... Anyone ever heard of them? ALLOT of features for the money! Digital remote and keyless, remote start, lots of changeable options, and more!

I wonder if there is a way to get around that? Wonder what triggers the ECU/PCM to allow engine to go into high idle/3 cyl idle? Perhaps this can be faked with some clever relays and a spare output from the remote starter. Heck, may not even need one.

here is the TSB on the high idle/3 cyl.
http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2001/18-019-01.htm
it doesn't mention the key being in the on position... i'll try again if temps drop below ~30F... maybe someone up north could chime in
