Regen
I think I hit my first real REGEN cycle yesterday, at 4200 miles on the ODO. Saw my normal, 14.3 MPG fuel economy sink to 7.9. After about 30 minutes of driving it started climbing again and actually increased to 16.4. Will have to wait it out and see if it remains that way. Does this sound accurate to you guys. This is my first diesel and I am just trying to learn a bit. Thanks.

I'd agree with that. I've had numerous, that I haven't noticed from inside becuase when you stop the truck and get out you can hear the exhaust snap craklin' and poppin. When it was brand new you could also smell the exhaust was hot.

Dealer told me today that I may not even notice the Regen Cycle on the truck. Said they have made improvements so it is less noticable. But there should be a display showing it is in Regen. I havent noticed one yet on my truck and have 7000 on it. He also told me that people who let them idle a lot cause the soot to build up quicker. Hence, Goes into Regen more often. Everything I've read said not to idle for long periods, so i try not too. Sometimes is unavoidable in creeping traffic.

I have also read in the owners manual about some form of indication for REGEN being accomplished, but I have yet to see it. So far I have never seen any indication of REGEN other than my fuel economy drop drastically and then climb back up after it was complete.

What do you mean by "overhead"? The owners manual mentions overhead too, and I don't see anything on the overhead other than dome lights, home link, and rear window switch.

Yeah, it's kind of confusing that the manual says it will say 'regen' in the messages, yet no one seems to have seen any regen messages. Kind of lame really.

With my new 2010, i have noticed that sometimes when i park the truck and get out, i can smell something
???? I guess it is the regen process on my truck....
What happens if the truck is shut down in the middle of the regen process? my commute is approximately 25 miles one direction to work every morning... I have 1600 miles on the truck.

I have an 09 4500 and always pull a 40ft trailer. I noticed the other day the truck going into regen. regen = loss of a little power , mileage goes from 9 down to...... well I dont even want to look. for bout 5 min then it picks right back up where it should be. The only thing I dislike on the truck . I also have a 6.4 550 and it tells you when its cleanning the exhaust and it never looses anything power wise, fuel mileage is crap on it but I will say that it will out pull and out run loaded or unloaded a 6.7

I have noticed on my truck that it goes into regen every 200-250 miles. The way I notice it is my mpg goes down on the monitor from about 19mpg on the highway to about 14-15mpg. This is cruising on the highway on mostly flat lever ground. After about 20-25 miles of regen then it goes back up to about 19mpg on the indicator. I also notice my DTE (distance to empty)drops significantly during a regen cycle.
I have about 7000 miles on the truck and just yesterday unplugged my EGR connector. My mpg was showing even higher on the indicator since I unplugged it but still went into regen mode after 200 miles. We'll see if this continues while it's unplugged. I thought unplugging the EGR reduces the amount of times it goes into regen mode??? Tomorrow I will be making a 300 mile trip and I'll get a better idea how she does. I will say since I unplugged the EGR yesterday, I noticed the acceleration seems smoother.

^^^^ Unplugging the egr helped my mileage about 3mpg in the city and about 2-3 on the highway. It will also derate the engine by about 40 hp. With it unplugged the intake temperatures went down from 160-210 to about 60 to 80 degrees and the engine response went way up. Since my emission system has been adjusted, the 6.7 is one happy motor.
