Regen question

I took my 07 6.7 QC DRW dodge on its first longer trip (900 miles round trip) and never once received any messages that it was regenerating. I am assuming it was doing it passively, but shouldn't it have done at least one active regen? When I bought it (month ago) I was told it has all of the latest flashes.

One other note, the truck is 100% stock. We pulled a 32ft living quarters horse trailer loaded the whole time and got 11.4 mpg. I was expecting worse with talk on here. My 01 Ford F350 single rear wheels would only get 9 mpg pulling the same trailer.

thanks in advance
Randy

I thought the most recent flashes are supposed to invoke the overhead to output the Regen status, but maybe not. ?? Mine does not either and was wondering if it would with a re-flash.. The manual says the later releases would display different stages of the Regen process.

I never saw a regen on my overhead in over 30000 miles. Don't think it shows them. My Edge Insight does , however, show them.

My truck was in for the turbo cleaning and flash update in Jan of 09. So I would think that I would have the latest flash as of JAN 09. My truck has never shown when the truck is in regen and still not will not show on the OHD if it is in regen or not as of this latest flash. The only way that I can tell is by my EGT gauge. This will rise in Temp from 600F or 800F depending if I am towing or not too 1000F thru 1350F for regen.

I've have the latest "AS" flash and have been regenning FREQUENTLY, nothing shows on the OHD, but my insight starts flashing and thats how I know. So I don't think that the latest flash causes the OHD to show Regen status.

Even with the updated messages "regular" regens will go undetected for the most part, it's when a regen event has been unable to perform and the DPF gets 40% or more restricted that you will see the message so that you continue to drive until it's done.

mine doesn't show either

until one of the sims I had installed started failing(?). It wouldn't show anything on the overhead until it thought it was at 80%. I put everything back to stock, now no messages on overhead, only on edge attitude.

I agree with Jim, I only know when mine is doing a regen by my pyrometer temp. On the freeway at 70 mph and around 2100 rpm it will rise from 900 to 1350 for about 20 minutes with no messages on the overhead.

Regen message

22k and I just got the first regen message on my overhead. There was a chime and the overhead read filter 80% full . I was running with tow/haul off and e/b on with the trans in 4. I knocked it down to 3 and drove like I was mad at it and it dropped to 70% in about eight minutes on city streets shortly after that the message went away completely.
I've had this truck just over a year and that's the only message other than oil changes that I've received.
I drive all over L.A. and have had no problems with the truck.
I'm sure this thing has regen'd before it just kept it to itself.

Figured out it was in a regen last night at the car wash.. Hit the tail pipe with the water and it went poof. That pipe was hot! I think if you pay attention real close, you can feel the difference in the way it reacts.. Seemed sluggish for a bit then the response came back.. I wish it did tell me it was in regen, I would have just drove it down the road a bit to get it done.

I doubt it was the regen that created that heat J. I would imagine the truck was P-O'd that you took it to a little car wash and not a real truck wash.

Treat it like a truck, not a sedan!

Like someone said my insight let me know when I'm in regen. Plus the heat that comes off the tail pipe, you can roast a dog. I put my truck under a temp car garage/canopy like the one you buy at Costco. I let it idle a little bit and it just about melted the sides.

Thanks...

Ok.. I didn't take it to the 100' truck bay. But either way, that was hot for only about 10 minutes of driving. My 97 doesn't even get that hot coming in off of a highway drive towing my trailer.. Thats just insane.
