Anybody got a red dot scope? How do you like it? I am thinking of getting one for my new .22 Any reccomendations? I know nothing about these

hunting up north,with shotguns,slugs only......reddots are the favorite.we all shoot them.for shots at around 100 yards or less,magnification isnt needed,a fast target aquisition is(we do alot of man-driving).....if you are talking about red dot magnified scopes,i cant really comment on those......ive seen about all kinds of dots used and they all seem to do just fine.i shoot a tasco power point plus 5 myself.its 47mm with 4 adjustable dot sizes and 11 different intensity settings....once you get used to it,and learn to shoot both eyes open,its great.it gives the illusion of the dot floating out in the same field as your target.,not like a conventional scope at all.....................bama

I had one on my AR15 and it's nice for close range but it doesn't magnify.

My buddy had one, complained about the turning it on vs. turning off thing, as well as the need to adust the light intensity based on varying light conditins (early morning vs. mid day), and he complained about the fact that you need to learn how to place the red dot in the correct spot. In other words, your eye needs to be aligned correctly or the dot wil be off center, and that will make your point of impact vary (according to him).

He gave it to me and we put it on my dad's rifle. My Dad has some eye problems and has poor vision in his dominant eye (macular degeneration). Objects in certian positions of his field of view look distorted, and when it comes to looking thru a normal scope he has this problem. He seems to like the red dot, maybe it has something to do with magnification of the old scope who knows, but it keeps him out in the woods and makes him feel more confident so what the heck. Kevin

I had one on my 44Mag and did not like it at all. At only 25 Yrds I could not get any tight groups with it. This is on a large revolver that I use for deer hunting. I may try it on a shotgun to see how it works for bird hunting.

The red dot scopes are great for close up, quick shooting. If you are going to be shooting at rabbits or something on the run, it is great beacause of the quick target aquisition. If you are going to shoot at stationary or slow moving targets go with a acope that has a large field of view(FOV) and the lowest magnification.

I put one on my crossbow this year that has 3 dots for 20,30 and 40 yards and like it a lot . When bow hunting I usally see the deer or turkey coming and I turn it on before they are in range . I hit a 8 point at about 40 yards this year and it was right on and easy to find in the scope . I do not like a scope or red dot on a shot guns when you can make a shot farther out ,by the time you turn on the dot find the target in it click off safety you will lose a lot of shots . I have shot many deer at 100 yards with open sites at a run a very hard shot for me with scope . All my rifles have scopes some are flip over so I can use open sites when in close . A lot will depend on how much you practice and eye site .

I have a Leupold red dot on my ruger mini-30, it works fantastic for deer hunting IF IT IS CLOUDY OUT, If the sun is shining it is hard to see the dot on quick shots, I plan on picking up a quick disconnect mounts to take it off on the sunny days. All in all i like it, just sucks in the sun, even with the sun shade on it, mine is the small dot though 2 MOA

I've got a red dot on my 870 wingmaster for pheasants and once you get used to it it's fast and fun. You will need to practice though.

I have an Ultra Dot Match Dot on my target Mark II.
It has adjustable dots from 2moa up to 8moa.
I love it- I can shoot 10 shots into one ragged hole off a rest at 25 yards with it. Golf ***** at 75 yards are childs play.
Best one I've ever used..
