Recon Cab Light install

Well, this is a question for those who have installed recons.... First, I have factory cab lights, but they are hard wired, no plug-n-play for me, so I am going to have to cut the connector off the Recons and splice in, no biggie - if I hook the wires up backwards it will not hurt anything right? Just in case... also - the rubber seal on the bottom of the OEM lights, do I transfer that to the Recons? Or do they not need anything on the bottom before install? They dont look like they seal well????

The Recons should come with their own rubber pads on the bottom, no need to remove the ones from the factory units. If they are like mine, the factory ones and the Recon lights are glued on pretty good, so removing them would make a HUGE mess.

As far as hook up, mine were plug and play, they must have changed the design on the 07 hookups? No biggie on getting the wires reversed. I hooked up 2 lights backwards, they just did not burn until I flip flopped the connectors.

if your truck come from the factory with cab light they should be plug and play. My buddy 07.5 were not hard wire in they were plug and play. He put the recon lights on his and just plug right up.

you guys think a set of 3rd gen. Recon lights would fit the contour of my roof ok on my 2nd gen.? My truck had an aftermarket set installed when I bought it, and they appear to be made by Pacer, and look like the set for a Chevy. I was thinking of going with third gens. cause they have the mounting holes front and back like the ones that are on mine now, instead of side to side like the reg. 2nd gens. Anyone know what the spacing is between the mounting holes on a third gen? I gotta measure mine to see what they are. I'm trying to avoid having to drill new holes and I wanna go with something with a smoked lense.

I have them installed.

You want to hard wire them the plug and play they use is crap.

You want to use clear silicone on them as well, around were the meet the roof,if not it can leak, mine did.

If you can get them off ebay or something, try to not pay retail price, they look good and all but all the crap you go though to wire and leak proof them is not worth the price they ask for.

I myself will never buy Recon stuff again,I'll wait for something elese,i have the cab and 3rd brake light and I had nothing but probloms with them.

I know there is some kind of Recon rep in here somewere if he chimes in about this you can have all the lights back with there boxes if I can get a full refund.

And I am the opposite of pav. No leaks on three sets of cab light installs. Have line of fire, big rig lights, smoked third brake light and smoked taillights. One cannot have good without bad...though it would be nice.

Well as I started the thread, I already had two of the factory lights off the truck and they were hard wired, I could not even see splices - wires came from A-pillar right into the light bulbs.... I spliced in the Recons, all worked and used the factory rubber seal on the bottom - it made the fit seem nicer - no silicone, don't know about leaks yet, it hasnt rained and I didnt have time to spray with the hose. I did crack one of the Recons slightly by overtightening one of the screws, dont think it hurt anything and it wasn't bad. I also used the black screws that held the factory lights on because the Recons came with silver screws which I thought looked bad with smoked lenses. I can measure the screw hole spacing tonight and post what that is for you afoulk.

I like them so far - I will get some pics soon.

It did not leak for me till we got on heck of a storm,I use a small pressure washer to wash the truck, allthough they do get alot of water beading inside them somehow.

The leak was nothing more then a few drips right were the visor clips in on the driver side, that I know of,I got them sealed yesterday.

Thanks for the heads up - I will keep an eye out for leaks. I too use a small pressure washer pretty frequently.
