Recepie for Power

A good friend of mine has a bone stock '96 12V CTD 3500 Dually w/NV4500 trans. He has over 360,000 mi. on the truck and wants to SERIOUSLYupgrade the engine. He told me 400hp/800+tq would make him happy. Heres my questions:

1. What is the best recepie to hit those numbers?

2. Will the stock parts (ie. rotating assembly and valve train) handle the increase with 360,000 mi on the clock?

3. Should the valve train be freshened?

4. It also needs to be dependable (IF this is possible)

I already suggested he upgrades his clutch, exhaust, and buy a set of gauges. All of that is in the works.

I've been turning wrenches and building horsepower in gassers for years. I just got turned on to the diesels this past year!! MAN THEY'RE A BLAST!!!!!!!!

Yeah. Diesel's are a LOT of fun. Here's how I'd do it:

1. #10 plate, Scotty 2, exhaust, 370 injectors, SPS 64 turbo

2. They'll be fine

3. It's fine. Just do a fluid change on everything as basic maintenance.

4. Fully possibly.

5. I recommend a con OFE from Southbend Clutch. Some will say the FE but it's just to grabby and very jerky. You could go a dual disk but that's WAY overkill for that power band.

That should get you to 400hp. I don't know much about the 12v's but I think that should get you to where you need to be.

I made 402/885 on Saturday. Look my sig for the mods

The twins are overkill, I'm going with more fuel. A good single would handle the horsepower as good, maybe better

I say pretty much what Blue said except you can nix the 370's and I would go with a PS62 instaed of the 64. For 400 RWHP the 62 is awsome and will spoolup better. I would also recommend an AFE stage 1 or 2 filter. This should put him around 425 RWHP.

i agree with what has been said but remember that you want to get gauges on there to moniter the boost and egts atleast . 400hp out of a 12valve cna be had pretty easy . but like some have said once you get there you always want more .
