Recall mania!!
Was driving today and noticed a bad burning smell inside the cab. Checked around and found the headlight switch was overheating and the connector was all melted sooooo...
I searched DTR and found out that not only is it a common problem but it is also covered under a safety recall. Then using DTR I found the links to:

and printed out all of the recalls for my truck. Went to the dealer, they checked their computer and they are going to do 7 recalls on it.
Hood latch (2), ignition switch, coil spring tower reinforcements, headlamp switch, steering shaft and throttle cable/linkage.
I can't believe they will do all of that on a truck that is 10 years old with 190,000 miles on it. The best part is that I was going to buy new ball and sockets for the throttle linkage but they are covered under the throttle cable recall and will be replaced anyway.
Just a reminder to anyone that hasn't yet checked their truck for recalls. Mine goes in Monday.

We are working on putting together DTR's own TSB and Recall section.
This will probably be part of the FAQ section, I dont know yet.
We've just started gathering the data. I dont have a time frame yet for its completion.

Not sure if I would be happy or sad. A recall is essentially a polite way to fix what should have been done right the first time.
A certain other vehicle I used to own, 2nd year for the particular model, had no recalls what so ever, ever, ever....
Glad to hear they are fixing things for you! Now, if the lift pump recall ever comes out....yeah, right!

Well what do the "General Recalls" mean? The transfer pump is on there.

I have a 94 and I checked on that website and noticed quite a few recalls, can I take it to any dealer and say I want it fixed or what do I have to do? I figure if its a problem and will get fixed free then why not!!

Just print them out and bring it to the dealer with you. I did this with our Jeep and the service guy was amazed that I knew the stuff needed to be fixed and they didn't.

If you take your vin # to the dealer they will look it up and tell you what recalls have been done and which ones need to be done. If it is a recall they have to do it for free it does not matter what year or mileage you have. Matt

That's what I did. I printed out the list of recalls and gave it to the service person. They checked all of the recalls, the VIN and even found one recall that was not on my list. I dropped off my truck today and should get it back in a couple of days.
I am sure that if I did not specifically ask about the recalls no one would have checked and I would not be getting all of the "free" service. Once I showed the printout there were no questions asked and no resistance to doing the work. I think the key is that you have to ask!!
I will tell you how everything went when I pick it up.

Well I picked up my truck today after having the recalls done, this is what they did:
1. Recall 709 - steering shaft - looks like they put in a new shaft in the middle of the shaft.
2. Recall 819 - Headlamp switch - I have to take off the dash to check what was done but it lists parts for wiring.
3. Recall 835 - Coil spring towers - they sandblasted the frame and welded in a stamped reinforcement bracket from the frame to the coil spring towers. Looks mucho strong now.
4. Recall 875 - ignition switch and wiring - installed a new ignition switch, I can't really check the wiring but again there are parts called for a harness.
5. Recall 970 - Diesel throttle cable - replaced the throttle cable AND the ball and socket joints that were completely shot (loose) on the throttle linkage. This should make adjusting the throttle, TPS and TV much easier.
6. Recall 973 - Replace hood latch - they replaced the secondary hood latch.
All of this must have been a bit of work especially the coil sping tower fix, with all the sandblasting and welding. The best part was when I got the bill - total cost:
