Rebuilt tranny not shifting right
Hello everyone. I would like to say this is a very good forum without a lot of BS. I have a 95 CTD with the auto. At 150,000 mile the tranny decided it had enough. I shopped around locally and got it rebuilt. The tranny works great except for the 2-3 shift. It will not shift at WOT I have to lift about 3/4 of an inch before it will shift. In 3rd gear at highway speeds if floored it will downshift anyway to 2nd. The first time this happened I saw the motor hit 3500rpm before I could get it shut down. It goes back to the shop next week. My question is does this sound like external adjustment or will the tranny need to be dropped? By the way my 95 is stock except for a few bolt ons. 160hp and 400lb-ft is slowwww.

Where would the tv cable be adjusted at, in the engine bay or on the tranny? On the 1-2 shift it shifts out of first at 2600rpm. If I adjust the Tv cable won't it change my 1-2 shift rpm?

It is adjusted at the inj. pump end. You push in the button and move the cable's outer jacket toward the front of the truck. Do this until you can feel some slack in the cable, (at idle position) then go back until the slack just disappears. That is the adjustment that is generally about right for most trucks. You can fine-tune it from there. You might want to keep some slack in the cable at idle, but it depends where your initial adjustment was.
It will change your 1-2 shift to some degree, but it is generally not as noticeable as the 2-3 shift.
Sorry, forgot to say "welcome to the site."

Thanks for the help Torquefan. I had to move the cable in 8 clicks before the transmission would shift out of 2nd. The shifts now feel, well they don't feel at all. With the old tranny and the new one before I messed with the TV had nice firm shifts. I can move the TV cable back and get my firm shifts but no shifting out of 2nd. With the cable where newly adjusted it shifts out of 1st and 2nd at 2500rpm. Seems a little low to me, not to mention the mushy shifts. Any ideas? I hate to lose the truck for a few days, but back to the shop it goes.

YOUR 95 47RH HAD TWO DIFFERENT GOV WEIGHTS. THERE WAS A LITTLE
KNOWN TSB THAT GAVE YOU A GOV WIGHT THAT UPSHIFTED AT 2600 RPM
BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD. THE ONE IN YOUR TRUCK IS PROBABLY THE
EARLY 2800 RPM GOV WEIGHT. THE 2800 DID NOT HAVE A GROOVE CUT INTO
THE 2600 RPM WEIGHT DID. YOU CAN EITHER GET IT, PART#4617828 FOR
UNDER 20 DOLLARS FROM A DEALER OR PUT IN A GOOD AFTERMARKET V/B
THAT WILL INCREASE LINE PRESSURE AND MAKE SHIFTS RIGHT WHERE YOU
WANT THEM.
