Rebuilding door hinges? (fixing road noise)

I read awhile back that there are kits for rebuilding sagging doors, and that it brought a great improvement in road noise as well. My road noise is just UNBEARABLE, and I really need to do something about it. That, or find a truck with less noise. At 60-65, my radio is almost fully up. At 70-75 on the Thruway, you can't hear a passenger. Wind and noise is just ridiculous.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks,
Shawn

mine is getting worse too. I read at one time where you actually bend the door back slighty using your knee.

maybe someone else with more experience will chime in.

Last one I had in the shop had no oem or aftermarket(NAPA) replacement anymore. Had to get a complete hinge. I know the 1st gen pin and bushing kits are still available through NAPA.

My driver's door has a serious sag when you open it the floors wet under the carpet as well I think it's leaking around the door. I got a kit containing pins and bushings at Advanced. Now all's I need is a warm day to fix it.

Nice to know those kits are available. The hinges aren't cheap and come as bare steel.

I'll have to give advance auto a call and see what they list or have. Do you remember about how much they cost?

$5.99 they are in the help section. The kit is only for the upper hinge.

Wind noise typically comes from incorrect adjustment not sagging pins. Last two second gens we replaced upper and lower hinges to the tune of 95 dollars per set. Easy to replace, harder to adjust.

I haven't looked too closely, but I know the bushing my door rests on (the one that keeps it at set points) is shot. I have specifically looked at the upper and lower hinges to see what are bad, though. My door does without a doubt sag. Is there somewheres to get the lower hinge rebuild kits?

Oh, and how do you adjust the doors? If I could get away with adjusting them, I'd be thrilled.

I do not recall if second gens are rebuildable like first gens. The doors are multi adjustable, the hinges and door can be moved up/down, fore/aft and in/out for depth. The striker pin in the door jamb is also adjustable. Dodge doors are not typically set properly even from the factory. Just be sure when adjusting that you keep the gaps even and the doors flush with the surrounding panels. If your doors are sagging too badly it may be too late for a quick fix, you may have to throw the money at it until it goes away.

What Ive always done if its just a "little" out of alignment, and I must state again, a "little" out of alignment. We, always just took a floor jack with a big 4"x4" block of wood on it and jacked up under the door enough to put some pressure on it. I wouldnt suggest lifting the whole car of course!
You may have to do it a few times to get it just right.

It usually can help you get by for a while, of course things are going to wear out again shortly, but it can get you by for a while.

Theres my .02

It also helps to keep the door hinges well oiled. This it the biggest preventive maintenance you can do....

I used this method on mine and it brought my passenger door into perfect alignment. Just be careful not to lift on just sheet metal in the center as it will bend. Bet you can guess how I know.

I had to end up using the pin kit in the Help section for a late 90's S-10. My holes were worn out so a standard bushing kit for our trucks wouldn't work. The S-10 set worked good.
