Does anyone know if you can just simply have a solid rear window removed and have a sliding one installed in its place, or are there differences in the fit of the window or trim? Thanks, Shima

it's just a rubber gasket that fits in the steel frame of the truck.

you may need a new gasket that comes with the slider.

but usually, you "rope it in"

you lay a thick (thinner than a pencil but not tiny) rope (cord) in the gap of hte gasket, overlap the ends about a foot.
hold the window up to the outside of the hole,

and as you pull the rope from the inside, it pulls the inside lip of the gasket over the lip of the steel frame of the truck, and the gasket seals over the lip

so, it's basically simple.

a 3rd gen with all the windows down, and the slider open is very quiet on the highway, (how i drove my 04 in fall & spring when cooler)

i can't stand to drive my 06 with windows down, because it don't have a slider.

Step 1:

Get zero-glass deductible from your insurance.

Step 2:

Load four wheeler in back of truck.

Step 3:

Go through approach at McDonald's fast enough to flex truck frame such that four wheeler impacts back window.

Step 4:

Have insurance replace back window, pay extra for slider if needed.

(no not really, that would be dishonest- but that's how I got mine. It was an accident though- promise.)

what the deal with the rear slider? i changed mine to a solid. My buddy doing the same thing cause somebody broke into his truck throught the rear window.

i like the rear sliders for materials(wood) and stuff but definetly not worth the theft risk!To many toys in my truck!

Actually , it`s not that easy on these trucks...they don`t have a "gasket" anymore , and are glued in. the interior trim needs to be removed for access to cut out the old window. This is what our glass co. we use @ work told me.

The windows are the same , as far as fitment though.

Shima, what model is your truck? I have a 03 bought it new, ordered it with the sliding back glass, never been open but maybe 5-10 times at the most. Might would trade for solid back glass, would really like a back glass with the electric defrogger wires.

Mine is a 2006 2500 SLT QC. I bought it yesterday. The window looks new. It isn't tinted like the rest of the windows are and I found a piece of busted window glass under the driver seat when disabling that stupid backup horn deal. I need a slider so my dogs can stick their heads in the cab while riding in the back of the truck. They like that. Also, not to change the subject, but does anyone know of a place that has used camper shells or great deals on new ones in the southeast? Thanks, Shima

RHC is right down I-24 from me. Maybe he and I can meet somewhere and split the cost to have the swap done if the 2006 and 2003 are compatible.

10-4. Has to be cut out and urethaned back in.Depending on the glass guy, the back seat and interior most likely have to come out as well. No more "roping". Was designed to stop the leaking issues that the second gens had and to improve body rigidity to make the cab quieter. Weird, even my '07 had a leak issue. Hmmmmm.

Had a slider in my Ford. The rattles drove me crazy and I never opened it. So, I ordered my CTD with the fixed glass.
