rear freeze plug installation tool

Does anyone know where to get the freeze plug installer tool/plate that pushes the rear freeze plug in. I need to push a freeze plug in and the engine is in the truck. Anybody got some tips or tricks for the instalation of the freeze plug?
Thanks,
Topper

EEP sales a aluminum plate that is machined with an oring that you can push in by hand and bolt with 3 flywheel bolts to the block. It is the same as there coolant relief kit without the hole for the line. It is a very nice piece and a 10 min install.

It is ten minutes once you can get to it!!!

The best way is with the tranny out, but next best is get it on a lift, remove tranny xmembers, remove front and rear drivelines. Allow the tranny to come down and this will expose the freeze plug hole enough to get to.
I recommend the eec or haisleys plug. While you are going to all the trouble, it doesn't make sense to set yourself up to having to do this again in short order.

I dont see a bypass kit in your sig. A bypass kit like Opie's is a very easy way to reduce coolant pressures on all your freeze plugs. It is also supposed to help keep #5 and #6 a little cooler due to flow/steam and a bunch of other factors I am not smart enough to understand. Bottom line had one on my other 06 and never had a freeze plug issue.

I put the EEP plate in laying under my truck and reaching around that gerthy tranny. I didn't drop anything, Then again I do have 3' arms. You have to feel around for the bolt holes on the one side but it is very easy and I'm no mechanic.

I've blown my freeze plug out twice now with opies bypass installed. The second time had a steel plate and fitted collar to hold it in too.

Why are you guys so worried about the bypass kits? Are you having problems after bumping the power?

A bypass is not and end all be all but they do reduce pressure. I think alot of people weakend their plugs before they installed a bypass system. The nice thin about Opies is it is pressure/temp activated, and I didnt pay $500 for mine. Again my truck was only at 750hp, but I put my bypass on early in my quest for real power and never had an issue with freeze plugs. Maybe my block and plugs were built on a tuesday, and just my head was built on friday, cause at 20K and no real power add ons I had some horrible valve seats. Anyway every truck is different. If you spend $20K to make your truck run like a monster whats another couple bills for added insurance. JMO...

I have to tell ya I am so hot I can't stand it. We built a new engine, did a ton of work to help the engine live and I didn't put the plate on the back of the block. I am so mad at myself. I ran the absolute snot out of my truck for 120,000 miles on the original engine and finally blew the head gasket due to many many hard runs towing anything and everything just beating the heck out of the poor truck. Never had an issue with freeze plugs so I didn't think I had anything to worry about. I thought only the big hp guys had to worry about freeze plugs. Well 1 mile into my road test on the new engine and out comes the freeze plug. Thank god I wasn't going over 30 mph. It just popped out, not sure if the machinest installed it right or the plug was a whisker small but I never checked it and worse then that I never took the time to fix the problem in the beginning... How embarrising! I have kicked myself all weekend. Tomorrow I will have one being overnighted that I promise you. Live and learn I guess.

Well best of luck to you. Im sure it will all pan out and you will be fine. Its amazing how some trucks can handle a beating and then you turn around and some have issues straight off the bat. Again best of luck and Im sure you will get her all straightened out and running great.
