rear end questions....
Ok i got a 96 cummins with the dana 70 i believe... i would like to know if this rear end is supposed to lock. I get power transfer to both sides but never both at the same time. I just serviced the rear end and replaced the fluid with 80-90w gearfluid. Still no luck, is this supposed to lock or is it jus a transfer thing. I would love to know cuz my dad's 1500 locks in the rear and it is stock, but it only locks with his 33" tires not with his 265/70/16. Im curious cuz i can do mean burnouts but it looks stuider that heck with the single line. I'm just curious about this and any one is welcome toi chime in and I do say laugh at me and mock me it will make for a better post...
Thanks,
John
p.s. i have stock 245/70/16 i hate them and am trying to burn em up so i can get my 35"... i get a good deal through school on MTRs. I can get all 4 for about 500 bucks brand new!!!!
Thanks,
John

Some trucks have an optional traction lock carrier in the rear. Most of the 4wd have them but not all of the 2wd have them. There should be a small tag on the diff cover that says something about the friction additive if it has a locker.
The true test of a locker type rear end is to put one tire on the asphalt and one in the dirt, they both should spin equally if the clutches are good.
