I just finished getting my Goerend triple disc, valve body and apply lever installed. The trans is greattttt now, zero complaints. Yesterday, I installed some laser cut dv's (thanks crimedog) and they made the truck awesssomeee, 370s and a set of DVs are the best! After I put the dvs in, I took it for a spin and my turbo or what I guess is started making the strangest whistling noise. (bare with me on this one) You know those long flexy straws you get at like the zoo with the big plastic cups and when you blow in them it makes a loud whistle? Thats exactly what it sounds like from 1-20lbs of boost?!?! I dont know what it is? I tightened, checked out all the fittings. Back to the original subject. I was driving down the highway and the truck sounded like it was grinding noise. I sped up a tad to see if it would make a difference, then it goes "tink tink tink, BREAK!" So I pulled over right away and I put the windows down and drove a few feet in the shoulder and it was a clunk coming from the rear end. I called my buddy and we took the drive shaft out and pulled me home. It clinks in the rear axle, so Im leaning towards ring gear pinion? What do you guys think???

I would say pull the cover off and see what the deal is.

Yeah, all I can say is pull the cover. Mine never made any racket at all until I hit a bump, and it made a loud pop. I pulled over to see what it was, and it had a tick coming from it... I ended up driving it home, and to school and home the next day before I pulled the cover, and found teeth in the bottom So far my new one has done fine. I have a 80 that will be going in soon enough though

Bad news! I broke 4 teeth off the ring gear. I have no idea what caused it either... I'm havin a mechanic friend fix it. $650.00 for all of it? Ring gear, pinion, and new bearings, plus 45hr labor? Sound right or....??

if he can set it up right, i'd say go for it. i charged 475 for install of ring and pinion on factory Trans/am, Camaro rear ends when i had my shop, seemed to be the consistent from many shops. ended up around 800 bucks after parts/oil. If you hear any kind of whine, grind, or anything, after the works done, he set it up wrong. Don't let him tell you "that's the way it's supposed to sound"

alright. I know it seems high, but it is cheap compared to others. Ive known this guy for a long time, and he is very reputable. I guess I just have to fork over $650.00 ouch!

$650 installed with parts doesn't sound too bad. A friend of mine and me rebuilt his Ford F350 rear for the tune of $800 in just parts, but that was everthing, bearings, seals, brakes, etc... Reused the old ring and pinion.

$650 total not bad at all if you knew how much of a pain those things are to set up you would wanna charge more than that, gettin it shimmed right can be very time consuming

Are there Dana 60s in the rear? Or are they only front? I found one in the classifieds on here and it says Dana 60 with 3.54....?

Nope. The dana 60s are in the front. Your truck should have a dana 70 in the rear. Now might be a good time to upgrade to a dana 80.

There is the carnage! The whole mess is being replaced with Yukon Gear & Axle parts... any experiences?
