I had a rear inner bearing go out Saturday, and litteraly gaulded or welded itself to the spindle. Best explanation I can give is the inner circle of the bearing, that the rollers spin on, is the part that is still on the spindle. The actual rollers and outer carriage poured out of my hub.....

On to my question - what is the best way to get this thing off? I have heated with no help, and even cut a little off to give me something to hit with my punch, and nothing. I am fearful to put too much liquid wrench on it in fear of getting into the spindle. Any old school ideas out there? Also, if I do end up getting into my spindle, what is my options other than a new rear-end?

Jeff,just helped a buddy get one off the front spindle on his Chevy 1/2ton...same thing , the inner race welded to the spindle. he had tryed beating,chiseling(fortunatly he didnt tear the spindle up!)..
the only way i have ever heard of is to cut it off with a torch. you have to do it very carefully, dontgo so hotas to cut into the spindle.Fortunatly the innerraceseems made of a much softer metal.After you get it off,you will haveto let it cool and then polish the spindle with emery cloth and examine it for damage and grooves. If there arent any, then your good to go, if there are you need to replace the spindle.

I did have one do this on a 87 gasser Dodge I used to have, i was able to beat it off from behind with a short pieceof 2X4 and realy BFH.. but i got lucky.....

use a cut off wheel (air, or electric powered). cut must of the way through, then hit with hammer and chisle to break. slide off race.

Already tried that with an air grinder. It did not budge.

I've done a # of bearings off whatever kind of shafts , axial , trans. shafts , ect.
, Its just a matter of using a tool well , sometimes a torch , sometimes the cutoff wheel , sometimes hammer chisle or a press , if it gets really bad ,it will be combo of any or all of the above .
The worst is when you need to put in lathe and turn down , but thats about 1% of the time .

Use the torch. Go slow, a little at a time on opposite sides, very patient. It will fall off with a tap eventually, but go slow.

I have removed many inner races from farm equipment that way and have yet to damage a spindle or shaft (where is that knock on wood icon?).

i had to torch mine off then used a file that is made for threads to clean them up good as new

I had that happen to me, but I had to buy a whole new spindle, Which aint Cheap! (front left)

I agree with the cut-off wheel. Cut the inner race in two at the top and bottom. Then use the chisel to knock it off. You will stand a lot better chance of getting it off this way without hurting the spindle.
