Rear axle
Rear axle
I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction, I know I should go to the rear axle and look at the tag but that will come tomorrow when day light comes. I noticed a small seep around the diff. cover gasket and found a TSB. about 2000 and 2001 trucks having the gear oil changed to 75w-90 and the gasket material going bad causing leaks. Well I was trying to find in my book about how much it held( fluid cap.) and how much friction modifier to add. The book says that it has 90w oil and to use friction control additive @ 6.5% of lube quanity. I'm not even sure what it has for an axle other than its a 2001.5 with disc brakes, 3.55 ratio quad cab 4x4 automatic.
The owners manual should have it listed that a certain axle takes this or that.
How much and what weight oil and how much modifier. On the TSB it says to use a RED/ORANGE Mopar RTV sealant p/n 05013477AA. Seems a little crazy everywhere I look it lists something different.Does it have a Dana 70 10.5" axle?

being that it's automatic, if your truck is a 2500 it's a dana 70. if it's a 3500 it's a dana 80.
90 weight oil is just fine for rear ends. i'm not sure off the top of my head the exact amount. but i would buy 3 quarts and just fill it till it comes out the fill plug. i would just buy gear oil that has the friction additive in it.
u can use red rtv if u like, but ive always used black. either one will do.
while your in there, get yourself some brake clean and clean out the diff really well and inspect it.
hope this helps bud

If you plan to tow chrysler wants you to use the synthetic with a weight of something like 75-140 or 75-135. I can t remember for sure. It will take at least 3 quarts. I add two friction modifiers. Some sealants wont work right with certain lubes. The mopar number you posted works the best. I am sure there is a cheaper one available. You should have a dana 70.
