"Mechanically, it is the concept's 7.2-L, direct-injection, inline, six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that attracts attention."
Is this a DC engine?

IIRC, that engine was produced by Detroit Diesel and required a special diesel "designer" fuel. It was ultra low (or was that high?) sulfor content I think.

Re:Really too bad for us
Actually it looks like it is a Caterpillar engine.

I'm sure they were developing it specifically for DC under contract and if it were to be produced would be a DC/MB product. Also it does require special no sulfor "designer" fuel though to meet the new ultra-low emissions standards coming into effect, not bio-diesel.

It's a Mercedes Benz MBE900 engine. It's standard issue in Freightliner and Sterling (both owned by Daimler Chrysler)medium duty trucks. It is imported by Detroit Diesel, another D-C subsidiary, so Berak is half right.

Re:Really too bad for us
The last time I was on the Detroit diesel web site I read some info. on them. But if I am not mistaken I think the MBE 900 is 6.37 L.
The article that berak posted said it was a CAT engine. And the 3126 series engies are 7.2L. I would guess that the diesel under that Dodge is based off of the 3126 engines.
