Buy it, and it'll take at least 6 months to wipe the smile off your face.

Sounds like a good deal. Have fun.

njoverkill,
Go for it, but you might have the dealer do two things:
1. physically check and fill all fluids (trans, diff, etc.). This is not normally part of the PDI.
2. check the alternator bracket. If it is the old "stamped" style, insist they change it to the new "cast" style bracket.

If you enjoy yours half as much as I enjoy mine, you will be a happy camper!

The Boss Hog
(19,000 trouble free ;D)

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. When driving it home, remember for the first 500 miles to vary your speed as the owner's manual says to do - this helps seat the rings properly. It will take a lot longer than that to fully "break-in", but just follow the owner's manual recommendations and you should have many years of happy driving from that truck. Enjoy, and welcome to the diesel sniffers anonymous.

njoverkill,
The "stamped" type is a piece of stamped steel that looks like about a 1/8 inch thick flat plate bent almost in two. It tends to develope cracks at the stress points. The "cast" type is cast iron. There where some pictures floating around and a thread on the problem ("Check those alternator brackets boys&quot.

Latter,
The Boss Hog
Re:Ready for the plunge... Details, questions!

Be sure and have the dealer check that rear end fluid in your presence. It should be approximately 1/4 inch below the hole when cold. THere has been a lot of these shipped low from the factory and of course the ******* thinks it's all a lot of hooey. But, it is important. There have been several guys on this forum that have had to have a new rear end put in at under 2000 miles because of this fluid prblem.

Otherwise, I wish I had gotten that good a deal.

OK. I already asked the dealer and he said "OH YEAH THEY CHECK ALL THAT STUFF ON DELIVERY

I REALLY HATE DEALERS. With a passion. I'm having quite a hard time getting this particular dealer to do anything right aside from the price. They're trying to tack on a Documentary fee of $50 and inventory tax. I know inventory tax is required by TX, but the doc fee is crap, and even if it's not, it should not apply to me because I'm from out of state according to various web sites.

Can someone tell me what size socket fits on the rear end drain plug and I will check it myself?

Re:Ready for the plunge... Details, questions!

Tell your dealer that you will pay the misc. fees if they will put the truck on a lift and pull the plugs for you. If everything is filled to the bottom of the fill hole you pay the fees and an hour of shop time. If any of the fluids are short, they eat the fees and the shop time. My money says that if they will go for it you will not be paying the fees. 8)

Re:Ready for the plunge... Details, questions!

I have been lurking for a while and soaking up the information on the forums. I recently took the plunge, and could not be happier. I took a trip from South Louisiana to the smokies, and was very impressed with the performance. Thanks to all who reply to the forums, I received some great information, and was able to get an awsome deal from my dealer. (Be sure to ask the dealer about any unadvertised dealer cash that might be available.) During Dodge's summer push DC is offering dealers $500 - $1500 cash back for trucks sold. It is a step program depending on the volume the dealer sells.

Hey,

I'm looking for basically the same truck and I'm in Central Texas. Which dealership in Tx is offering that kind of deal?
