reading Codes in Cab

Does anyone know if the 1999 have the ability to get the OBDII codes in the cab? Or, do I need to buy one (yes I know I can get codes read at the parts store). Which readers are worth the money?

Thanks,
Bob

You'll need to get one, or keep frequenting the Auto Parts store.

Key on/off trick doesn't work on 98's or 99's.

I've heard that most of the off-the-shelf readers don't always play well with our dual computer trucks
(PCM and ECM fighting with each other)

You could always get the Smarty, have a code reader made for our trucks, and a little kick in the pants to go along with it.

RenegadeT- it works on all the 24v 00, 01, and 02. and the sequence is on off on off on. then check the odometer and it will come up with the pcu (maybe pcm, or ecu, or ecm i forget) then it will say DONE. but wait a few seconds longer, the ecm will come up and read the codes on that. (again, not sure on the ecm part). then it will say DONE again. then your finished.

definetly worth the 650 bucks. it reads codes, programs for larger tires, and is a very nice hp box.
