RJ are you going to race this one even though its the 1/8 mile? i remember last time i was out there you mentioning being able win it all. [guitar]
ps i heard rumor on the other forums of a "school bus shoot out" between Scott and Cody at redline, and i sure hope that SCOTT decimates.

Maybe! What I said was my best 1/8 mile time would have won it all. :)
Not many fast trucks there that night. I suspect this yr will be different.
If I can find some 265's to race on... I'll run. Actually, 245's would be better. I have wheels but no tires. Don't feel up to buying a set just for Redline!

Rowland, you could borrow our drag Toyos if we're around (not sure if TS is that weekend or not?) - they're only 30" radius at race pressure... practically 11.5" wide.
Max, we're supposed to be going to Chris' dyno, since we're sponsoring all 3 classes.
If we aren't in KY or somewhere we'll visit the ranch for sure, Charlie!
Sorry I missed your call, Robert - out of state with spotty cell service.
Hope everyone had a good Easter!

The TS Outlaw Event is in Bowling Green, KY on May 8-9.
Pretty big event, although it seems to have more following over on CompD that it does here. But it should be a pretty good collection of diesel power on the track, sled and dyno.

Is anybody planning on any wrenching at this meet?
I plan to install a Hellwig Rear Sway Bar and a set of PacBrake Air Bags.
Im also considering bringing the toyhauler if Charlie don't mind. And maybe some hamburgers.

If anything, I may finally put on my 3rd gen sway bar and conversion bracket from Mike. Possibly an oil change and FF change. Just depends...
It will be 8:30 or later before I get there on Friday. My flight doesn't land at DFW till 6:15pm.
Who all is in for Friday and Saturday nights?
Tylers coming late Friday, as of this am. He said Schoolbus is coming too for a yellow CTD challange.... unsettled business from Buda!
I'll be there before sunset on Friday. Probably mid afternoon.
Got an APPS sensor to change (not whole assembly) and could do an oil/filter change and grease!
Still have my weatherstripping to do on left door. I better plan on doing that too since box is falling apart. Had it for 6 months [laugh]

I think so. It's not a "set" thing. Every time is different and has it's own personality because some guys can't show up........or can't show up till later due to work or other obligations.
So just plan to come and stay as much as you can. I hope to come Friday afternoon and maybe set up the trailer and get set up to install the Sway bar and Air bags. If I get done with it great....if not..no biggie.
Im sure we will have a big campfire and no doubt something for dinner. The races on Sat are supposed to kick off at noonish and end at 5:30pm. So then we can come back to the ranch and continue the wrenching, or supervising the wrenching, drinking a brew or two or three [coffee]:o into the wee hours.

OK, the 25th is just a few days away.
Just a few reminders:
* If you spend the night, don't forget your bedding. The nights are still fairly cool, so something warm may not be a bad idea.
* Lawn chair.
* Drinks and any snacks you might want.
* Chain saw if you have one.
* Some of us have a pretty good assortment of tools, but it you need something special, be sure to bring it.
* Saturday at red Line: http://s3.excoboard.com/exco/thread.php?forumid=1177&threadid=596119

Yup!:D
If your coming this way, I'll take them. Getting kind of excited about trying Redline with present setup! (should be more 1/8 mile friendly, I think).
Best previous was 8.134/85.56 mph. Doesn't fit real well with ODRA classes but will still be fun!

Picking up the Uhaul tomorrow after work.. loading up Fri eve and Sat am and moving down to a place in grapevine... Will be in between me working in Richardson and Amy working on her Masters in Ft. Worth... Sucks moving though... Too much crap!
Bought myself (OK a 1/3 of.. Oscar and Lott PT each have thirds... Sure is cheaper that way!! :)) a 7x16 tandom enclosed today, aluminum skin, side door, back face is a ramp much like Roberts toyhauler... Has a V nose that is good for another 3 feet out front...
My last much smaller enclosed is rusted through and wasn't big enough for us anymore... Moving equipment for the clinic and being able to keep the quads locked up and covered is nice.. Will post a pic when I get one

Actually.....on the 7.0652 run......I smoked out the light beams....and it messed up the times in round 1 of the "round robin"...with me against RJ.
They had us rerun the heat.....with some blowers brought in place to keep the smoke off of the beams. In that heat........I had a 8.80 dial in and ran a 8.8534......to take the win over RJ who ran a 8.8331 but had a 8.70 dial in.
Round 2 of the Round Robin.....I ran a 8.7507 and lost due to a breakout against a dang duramax who ran a 10.0243. (not sure of his dial in) I tried to run him down.....but if I had slowed down I might have got him by being closer to my dial in time...and not under it.
Micah said I won the first set of time trials....for no NOS. My best time was a 8.4869. I didn't know I was in the running for anything....but i'll take it.
I never dreamed I was winning anything....since I spent I don't know how many runs just learning how to boost launch. I did a bunch of runs early in the day in the 9s. Later I got the hang of it some....and did most of my runs in the 8.80 range.

Thanks to Crobtex for organizing the GTG and use of the ranch!
Also, thanks Robert for use of Camper...I slept really well. You kept us dry and out of the wind!!

Glad to help out and glad you got some good sleep Rowland. Sorry I missed you this morning. I was out like a light last night!
Thanks Charlie....for having us up to The Ranch again. As usual it was alot of fun.
I took Mike's advice and swapped those frame bolts around and turned the Hellwig Sway bar the other way.....and it fits better now. It would have worked as is.....but it is aligned up a little better now and not rubbing the exhaust.

That was the other deal for my times, I never got on the throttle hard until I was past 2400 rpm in 3rd, just more or less eased out until I knew I had a high enough gear to keep traction, then I impressed myself on how fast I was rowing through the gears.

Redline was fun as usual... I was glad one of us won money again (way to go Robert:cool:) and no one broke (thanks God!:)).
Since we were wrestling with Smarty's torque management/defueling in the pits, we couldn't get the '05 back up to the line fast enough for a re-run with Buck after he broke out, so the track officials backed us out of the staging lanes. :(
Our last pass of the day I paired up with Micah for a fun run and finally got an acceptable launch, then edged past for the win light - even though the truck had slowed down by several MPH after ~10 passes.... it was major heat-soaked. [roll]
Pretty good for shakedown trials - w/o fine-tuning the software, no coolant in the air/liquid IC, R49 not installed, NO2 bottle empty and no water sprayed, crankcase evac disabled, racing shoes not mounted, no weight removed, etc.
Can't wait for TS' quarter... this thing's a beast in triple digits. [coffee]

Mike - What was your ET/Speed on that last run.
Micah ran a 8.29/85.39 when he beat me (8.44/83.09). If you beat that 8.29 with the set up you were running....great things should be there in the near future!:D
I was slower later on.... Wondered if Micah was also?

No Bus Shootout! Only one bus showed.
Justin & Mike - On my Window Motor.... Good News/Bad News!
Good News = Was not motor...it's the regulator.
Bad News = Can buy Motor w/o Regulator.... but not a regulator w/o a motor.
So, if anyone ever needs a window motor ...I have one for sale!
Slightly used. Only used to drive little old ladies to the store and never operated in an 1/8 mile, a 1/4 mile, or in a street race.... and never opened over 100 mph! :D

My quickest run of the day was the last due to the launch, but the fastest - 87mph - was early on before heat-soak.
Definitely has HP.
So, the window regulator?
How much was it?
I'd be tempted to bypass it and run switched voltage direct to the motor... another half-hour of wrenching at Charlie's and we might have done just that to keep you dry! [laugh]

Wasn't as worried about the flu as I was worried about what gov't would do with respect to the borders or travel.
Looks like we're not going to go back till May 11, assuming it calms down by then.

So my parking brake light has been coming on lately even when the brake is off. Usually you can pull up on the pedal a bit and it would go out, but today it finally just wouldn't go off. So I got under there and pulled the switch out.
Here is what it looks like
http://cds.activant.com/C2C/C01/72/568/883598634.jpg
The copper arm is cracked almost all the way across right at the 90* bend. Apparently, it's not strong enough to last through 200K miles of the brake arm slamming against it each time the brake is released.
Of course, no one stocks the part so I guess I'll be ordering.
At least it was simple, I was anticipating a chaffed wire somewhere that I was going to have to track down.
crobtex
04-29-2009, 07:51 PM
How big is the copper bracket?
AggieJustin
04-29-2009, 10:36 PM
The leg from the 90* bend to the curved end is about 1.25". The bottom from the 90* to the screw hole is about 1.5".
From the way that the brake arm hits the bracket each time it is released, I can see how it would eventually stress the bend enough to break it.

Not sure....never filed electronically. But with the new "friendlier' IRS, I do remember reading something about them being required to refund all $ due, instead of applying it against next yr.
You should receive a letter explaining any changes made to your filed return.
I would not spend it till I knew why I got it. On the other hand, if they are depositing more than expected....and you know the deposit is from the IRS, why not count on it! :D

A really bad design. After playing with it a little bit, I realized how much pressure it takes to push the arm back to open the switch. Combine that with the hard it it takes when the brake is released, that's just asking for something on that switch to break.

Happy medium would be the 285/70/17s.. I know Justin is pretty happy with his?? Just dont know if it is a big enough jump in size for me???

315/70/17 = 34.4x12.4/17 1769 2022 RPM

265/70/17 = 31.6x10.4/17 1926 2201 RPM

Brian have you looked at the TOYO Open Country AT or MTs in LT285/75/17 size. They might offer you a compromise between looks, size, load ratings etc. I have been looking at them pretty hard as a possible replacement for my KM2s. I am just afraid I won't get the same wear out of the Toyos as I have (so far) with BFG.
http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/open-country-at
They are 33.8'' diameter.....11.2'' width.....E Rated with a (I think) 3900lb load rating. (I can't find it on their website...but I know it's pretty high)

The 285's do come in an E rating in 16".... and I know where a nice set of 10" Welds can be had!:D
Seriously, the 285's on 10" wheels would be more stable....and maybe 1/4"-1/2" lower height, adding a bit more rpm?? Just a thought.:)
FYI - been doing some research and those new KM-2's are a heck of a tire, IMO. Still not wild about the tread design but the technology appears exceptional.... especially for heavy towing. They will be my next set.

That way you can tow with 37"s![roll]
No I need to tow real weight! [laugh]
Your 3.73s put you right in line with my truck and the 35s
Fine for less than 8-10k... Pain in the behind on the highway with more! I want to cruise at 65-70 most of the time and it's too dang low for 6th and a bit too high for 5th [duhhh]

(I can't find it on their website...but I know it's pretty high)
..
Holy crap.. those things have a 3970# load rating!! drool... [laugh] Prefer about an inch shorter.. they have a 285/70/17 with a 3750# rating.. 32.7" vs 33.8" on the 285/75s
I wont get Toyo MTs love the looks, but I have yet to see a set that got any kind of miles....

RJ
I have nothing but positive things to say about my set of KM2s. 34K miles so far and going strong. Should see 50K for sure.
My complaint is the 3000lb load rating. If BFG is confident in their tires, why not up the load rating??
I am seriously trying now to decide what my next set of tires will be. I may stick with the KM2s, switch over to Toyo 285/75/17 for one set and see how they work out.........or get out the credit card and go up to 19.5'' Ricksons and get a set of "G" rated tires. Decisions Decisions. And none of the options are cheap.........it is just a matter of less "$pendy"....[laugh]

Overdrive above... and before you say drop a gear with my 315s at 70MPH dropping to 5th puts me at 2500ish RPM.... the jump is just too big with that poor a final gear ratio..
Opinions wanted!! :D
Go with a larger tire that puts you in a suitable range for towing in 5th. [laugh]
Even the 285s are mine are sometimes a pain on the highway. With 70 being there around 1800, any slower pushes you to the low end of the sweet spot and causes it to lug. For most towing where I can up the speed, it's not bad. But when loaded up heavy, I find myself in 5th much more often.

Come on now....1st gear works wonders for getting things moving.
I get along with mine fine since most of my heaviest loads follow FM roads where I'm running 50-55 anyway, so running 5th is perfect. With a load of cattle or something else where I hit the highway, I can do 6th easily, but it's not the same as the heavy load of hay.
Are you planning for hay loads, or something a little lighter?

Rickson 19.5''s????????? I'd sure love a set. I'd love to have 5 good used ones.....I could even get them sandblasted and powdercoated like my current OEM 3rd gen wheels.
I don't think I have ever seen an ad for them. Never see them on Ebay.
I figured I'd just have to order a set from Rickson ....plus pay a huge shipping bill[yuk] if I wanted a set bad enough.
As expensive as the wheels/tires are....I wonder how much more they really cost over the long run....since they should?? run about twice as long as regular tires. and how would the empty ride be when not towing?

Robert, I am not sure if they are "Ricksons" but they look almost identical and same size, I think the story on them was that the guy had to get rid of them cuz his gal did not enjoy the way it rode. maybe?

No leveling kit...still tossing around the idea. I like the stance of mine when it's loaded, because it drops the back end to be level. But I'm not a fan of the rake when it's empty.
But I figure with a leveling kit up front, I'll always end up "dragging tail" when I put a load on. Air bags could solve this, but it's more money than I want to lay out right now.
Yep looked at some pictures.... has to be a 285..

RJYa I realy fealt bad for Lazarsmith also and we had many of issues with other stuff while we was there also, I realy wanted to see some drag racing and ya there were guys from all over the country that was there for that and wasnt happy! It was a long hard weekend but we managed to get stuff done. Saturday my 06 carrier bearing went out on my way to the campground [verymad] so Dan Vallance came and towed me back and then my engined showed up and it took a good while to get that thing outa the back of a truck and then of course it came out of an auto so we had to swap ecm, wire harness and remove tranny cooler etc. It was along day and then we got the clutch and tranny stabbed sunday morning and dropped it down in the truck and it was a tight fit and that took a good while! Well we ran intosome issues here and there but got it running anf then right before we was about to leave on monday we went to install the drivshaft for the 06 and some1 stole the rear peice! So, I had to use mine and drive my 04 back in front wheel drive, it was realy our only option but it made it home just fine. We got to be in the pits at the Diesel Power Challenge on monday and watch that and it was alot of fun,

Great event...very well organized and run. Shop really knew how to operate their loaded dyno....loaded for 3500 lbs. Maybe 50 trucks total showed up.
I dynoed 563hp/1186 ft-lbs. First dyno with Mach 4's. Did not expect quit that high...so I'm happy.
Max did his first dyno on his 03.... got mid 400's with just a Smarty.... was happy.

265's were a lot smoother. My 315's definately must have thrown a weight. Slight vibration between 60 and 70 mph. Even the Centramatics would not correct for it on the way up to NM!.

Finally made it back home - woohoo! [roll]
These events have been tough on both the schedule and the wallet; first the long haul out to TS just to swap a common rail in the parking lot, detail the trucks for 3 days, enjoy a virtually continous pit party, watch the DPC Drags from the pits (where we changed a carrier bearing) and fix the winch cable on the GN so we could load the LazarSmith Special... driving all night both ways with 3 trucks, so sleeping wasn't really an option.
Albuquerque was better - at least we got to make the round trip during daylight, and the event was plenty of fun.
Truck got pretty hot pulling the GN on the way up to 5100', and we discovered the 'Special won't clear the smoke without NO2 at altitude. :o
When we were loading after the event, Stephanie drove too far up on the GN and ripped the 7-way harness in half (my fault, since I was in charge), and I discovered Miss Sled's wheel spokes were cracked pretty good (8 of 12 on one of the rears :()... so needless to say we took time to pray for a safe trip before leaving Sunday morning!
Extrapolating from the rate of crack propogation I was monitoring at every stop, I surmise that the damage occured on the notoriously rough sections of I-65 in KY (another casualty of TS-FUBAR '09 [laugh]). Since I'd transferred pin weight to the GN to help the truck's wheels, the added load blew out one of the GN's tires in west TX - so Steph & I swapped it with one of the 'Special's tires mounted backwards to the hub.
That incident ruined our chance to get home in daylight, so we decided to stay overnight in the next town - which I figured was a good time to propose to Stephanie (luckily, she also thought it was a good idea! :D)
We arrived home yesterday afternoon without incident, and I got the tire situation fixed... today it's the wheels.
Anyway, it was quite the adventure, and I'm blaming God for bringing us home safely!

Daniel, our runs were a little screwed up...
Had trouble rolling into the throttle slowly enough at 5100'
Forgot to reset the ABS for the 30" Proxies.
Can't lockout OD on an '05 (and no manual switch installed yet), so had 2 shifts on every run.
Still had the TNT-R set for 125mph, so ran into defuel at RPM.
Baselined very consistently with the 1st two runs, then turned on the injection for the heat-soaked 3rd run... and picked up 70HP on straight water dribbling out of all 12 nozzles in the individual-runner manifold.... gonna need about 5 more Shurflos to make it mist properly! :o

He's running H20/Meth with a Shied high volume pump of some sort. Don't remember details but he's injecting something like a gallon on each 1/4 mile pass?
(It takes me 8 passes to drain my 1 gallon system with two 625 nozzles).

Yes, I discussed Scheid's system with him last year - it's pretty nice, but $$$... also, I don't like the pressure it develops.
The nozzles we use don't require that much pump overhead, so I'd rather spend the money on volume.
Not too many medium pressure, medium flow pumps out there though... probably going to have to cobble something together. [coffee]
p.s. I was kidding about the multiple Shurflos (but I've seen guys hilljack that! [laugh])

Question. Do any of you guys locally have a small utility trailer I can borrow next month for about a week? I need something small........say 6' by 4' or so or maybe only slightly bigger that will hold 1 ATV and still fit inside my Weekend Warrior. I already have a utility trailer, but im pretty sure it's to long...over 14-15 ft total.
Here is my problem. I am taking my truck and toyhauler to Colorado for a camping trip.......and plan to take my ATVs too. But im not going to be camping near a trail head for the ATV trails. I don't want to have to break camp and hook up to the TH just to get to a trail head with the ATVs. I can't haul 2 ATVs in the bed of my truck......so I need a small trailer to haul one of them to the trail head (one ATV would be in the bed of the truck). The trailer would be inside my toyhauler until I got to Colorado...so I probably wouldn't put over 50 miles or so on the trailer. Any ideas?
..
Not sure if anybody saw this question in the other thread. Which thread are we on now...?[laugh]
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Mike.....It's gonna be perfect. (we talked earlier)
I appreciate it a bunch. I was actually looking at buying one identical to it (tractor supply) but hated to spend the money for a one time use.
