Raced a Hemi

I've been dying to race a hemi since dodge gives them all this hype. My cousin just bought an 04 hemi so I raced him. We raced 0-110 mph I put maybe 15ft on him that was it, had to turn the box up to 7-7 to beat him . Thats as high as i can go and keep my egt's below 1300 for a long distance. I played with him on some short run and ran it harder. He couldn't believe a diesel beat him, I couldn't believe I had to try so hard!!!!!!!!!!!!

He must have a 1500 RC SB... that's the only way I can see you having to work so hard to beat him...

I got a Cummins and a Hemi. Don't underestimate the speed of 345 horse. It probally won't pull a house of the foundation, but it can pull its own weight.

I traded in a 2003 1500 QC SWB 4x4 Hemi on my 2004.5 QC 2500 SWB 4x4 CTD 600. The Hemi ran good for the size and weight truck. It was definitely faster empty compared to the 2500 CTD empty. Stock 1/4 mile with 20" tires was in the mid 15s. Stock 1/4 mile for the CTD is high 16s.

Took the Hemi to Colorado to bring back a loaded truck and pulled a car hauler with a mid size station wagon. Total trailer weight about 6000#. Didnt think I was going to make it up some 6-7% grades. Everybody was passing me. P****d me off royally. BTW 10 mpg in the city didnt help.

Now if I want I add a couple of mods and run in the 14s, pull a house up a 10% grade if I want and get 40% better mpg.

check this out i got booted from dodge truck world for talking smack to all those hemi losers
I told one guy who lived by me i wanted to race him and i would drive there and we would race for cash. He told me i was tripping. I owned a 2003 hemi for a year before finally fulfilling a mans destiny. My truck now would destroy any hemi around. the guy was a big cissy he told the site admin that i was threatening him and that i was rude to him. Which i was only stating facts and this guy was argueing for days over a fact. I hated my hemi, i had the superchip, exhaust, intake, those stupid irridium plugs. what a joke. i mean show me a hemi with over 550 hp at the wheels and over 1000 tq at the wheels and then u can at least have an arguement. The funnyiest thing of all is that they had a dyno day here in fort collins and they were pathetic. happy as hell when they get like 250 i mean **** give me a break. my last one i threw down 548 and 1051 or something like that. Anyway they let them run a couple cummins on the dyno after they were done wasting it's purpose and they were just dominated. I wanted to laugh in their faces. The funny part is, the guy who was arguing with me about this whole ordeal. Not only was too yellow to race me but he now is on this very site and he bought a cummins 05. **** i guess since now he's owned a hemi and now owns a cummins, he too will be a expert first hand witness to reality of which vehicle is faster. Just think he could of just kept his trap shut and listened the to what i was saying 6 months ago. because after owning both u get a pretty good idea of what's going on.

(just like i told u back then, only u were too ignorant to listen because you are always right) u know who u are

LMAO. I look the other way now when stopped at the lights and a Hemi is beside me..... it is a total waste of diesel fuel

Now, IF he is on my RIGHT SIDE.... well, then i don't waste fuel.... I recycle it on their truck

I call it "Hemi Freckles"

there is alot of guy around me with them...they always ask why I bought my truck with a Cummins insted of a Hemi....

I always reply...

1st off, this is a second gen truck, the hemi only comes in the 3rd gen...
2nd, I didn't want a gasser truck, real trucks rattle...
3rd, it's a Semi-Hemi...
4th, I don't like to change spark plugs....(that one confuses most of them)...

hey Got Juice?.....that is funny..."Hemi freckles".....

don't take anything I said here as trash talking...I don't have a problem with anyone that's into anyhting that has an engine and 2 or 4 wheels...

it's the guys that I always meet that bought the XXXXX (insert car, truck or motorcycle name there) because of the "hype" behind it, the kind that couldn't do much more than drive it...

Gristle- You need to calm down. Don't get me wrong, I an a Cummins man to heart but I think the Hemi deserves a little more respect than you give it. Let's see, Chevyman had to take his TST to 7 7 to beat a (probally) stock Hemi. Huh ! You spent what--$10k-$15K extra on your truck to get all that extra horse and stuff to support it? Come on. Your the typical guy who compare apple to oranges and then brags how much better you orange is. Why don't you take a stock Cummins and Hemi, race them side by side and tell me where your money goes. I love this " My MODDED diesel kicked your stock trucks butt !"

That is true but think of how much money it would take to get 550 to the ground on a Hemi truck. 10-15k man who are you buying your parts from ouch!! you should be over 700hp

Gristle,
You made this a good thread!!!
I printed this off and handed this to a HEMI owner at work.

I always tell him "I couldn't afford the V8, so I got the 6 cylinder".

It will be interesting when the "big" Hemi comes out. I think the Hemi is a great engine, although I don't agree with calling it a Hemi, cause it isn't. We payed a premium for the Cummins, our option. Many people won't or can't justify the 4-5K option. You will need to keep the truck for over 100K miles to break even. The other thing to consider is that most people just drive a vehicle, they could care less about modifying it. That plays right into the Hemi-faster than a CTD STOCK. Case in point, my brother just bought a 2004-5 Ram 2500, I tried to convince him to buy the diesel, no way, he won't modify it, and said to him it wasn't woth it-he never tows, didn't need it. He also figured that the mileage issue was a non-issue. The cost was not an issue, my brother has plenty of the green stuff. So I can see why the Hemi is so popular. And to be honest Dodge makes it so they make more money on it.

lets take a stock Cummins and Hemi and put a 12,000 lbs. trailer behind them and run them down the 1/4 mile track......now that's racing....
