Quick Tow Haul mode question

I have been running in Tow Haul the last couple days at speeds under 40 around my house. I have noticed when slowing down from say 45mph coming to a stop sign, the tranny will downshift very firm. I kind bumps you foward.

Is this normal?

Thanks.

does the TC stayed locked more in Tow Haul? Is that what you are saying?

Yes...put the truck in drive and just ease on the throttle and drive normal on up to about 60...notice that the TC will lock with the tow/haul mode on at around 30mph if you don't have it to the floor and without tow/haul mode on, it won't lock until around 50+/-.

My truck downshifts rough in tow/haul as well...you're fine.

think of it like the tranny is manually downshifting to slow you down. It is normal. I use it when coming off the freeway.

I always drive in Tow Haul. I wish the selector only had T/H and O/D off. I never use the regular mode. T/H is a little rough downshifting.

It seemed a little rough upshifting when more skinny peddle was used than less, but now with Smarty it seems like upshifting is smoother. Has anybody else noticed that? Of course, I'm only running on #1 w/Smarty, so higher levels on a non-stock tranny would probably be different...

T/H holds the gears too long for my liking with an empty truck. It won't upshift when you're just cruising down the road around 40mph and holds the RPM's higher than they need to be for cruising empty.

I've started using 2nd and 3rd (O/D locked out) when driving on city streets at slower speeds. It shifts normally and locks the TC at 30mph in 2nd and ~40mph in 3rd. This way I can still drive around with the TC locked but don't have to deal with the hard shifts and high RPM's of T/H.

I am curious, at what speed would be safest to do this??
I do this but usually under 50.
Thanks
