Quick Question

I could not get an answer on another thread so I'll try this. I know there is not any performance gain by removing the silencer ring but am confused on whether removing it is better for my turbo or is just a noise issue only. The only free time I have for a while is tonight so any response would be appreciated.

Well, it makes air flow smoother. How much gain it makes...??? Don't remove the vanes at the very bottom, it makes the air flow smoother into the turbo. Better have some 2 part epoxy handy when you pry the tube apart to take the baffles out.

I used a type of super glue, don't recall the brand but you put it on thickly and then for a minute or two you pull it apart and push it together repeatedly.

removing the silencer ring gets some gain but not a whole lot the turbo seems to spool up a little quicker. removing the baffel in the intake tube will also help some people use a piece of metal tubing and some pry the end off and reglue it. but like madhat said leave the vanes in the tube

Whats the purpose of the vanes exactly? I dont see any aftermarket tubes that have them with their kits? Like the AFE stage 2 or like the replacement tube the "Cool Blue" (I think thats right) Dont have them in it?

As for the silencer ring I didnt notice anything but sound difference when I removed mine, but it sure does LOOK like its causing a restriction although I didnt take out any baffling or the vanes just the silencer ring and that was all.

Thanks for the response. I had heard two different stories and went back and read countless threads on the subject and was still confused on whether removing the silencer just made more noise (whistle) or if it was actually better for the turbo too. I'm thinking of making my own intake but still debating on the silencer ring.
