quick question

Hey everyone, Im a long time reader but a first time poster. My question is should there be fuel in hole that the fuel cone is in. Ive notied a loss of power and fuel milage in the last two weeks, so I was checking my pump settings and when I pulled the diaphram the hole was half full of fuel. I dont remember any fuel in there before. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to our forums.

As far as the fuel in the AFC well, mine's got it too. Smells like really old gasoline.

I think it's just plain old fuel weeping around the looser than it was new fuel pin.

Just blot it out with a paper towel as there may be enough that it's interfering with the movement of the diaphragm/cone assembly (hydraulically binding it sorta).

Those who know better will post soon.

There should not be fuel in there, but unless it's leaking out the vent I wouldn't do anything about it.

There was enuogh fuel in there to have the bottom of the diaphram wet but it was not on top of it. Can you explain what vent you are talking about. Thanks for the input.

Also could this be contributing to my loss of power and milage and could it be fixed with new seals or do you guys think that the pump will have to be rebuilt to fix it. If it is someting little I would hate not to fix it because Im kind of **** about leaks.

The vent is under the AFC diaphram housing facing the fire wall. It should have a rubber "snout" pushed over the hole to keep debris out. It vents off the under side of the diaphram during normal operation.

It sounds like the ULSD has done its thing again. (Why cant they make China and the rest of the 3rd world get up to speed to "clean" the air? we cant do it alone) Mom's just got her pump redone, and the guy at the pump shop said he has been busier than a one armed paper hanger since last fall.

Your pump needs seals at the very least. May be a good time for a thorough rebuild, too, as it likely wont get better on its own. If it is leaking, other stuff could be worn, too, contributing to your marginal MPGs. ALso get your injectors checked while you have it all apart.

Mine was also leaking fuel into the afc. I took the fuel pin out held the pump wide open with the linkage and at the bottom there was a pin that popped out... I took a screw driver and some cleaner and cleaned it up and pushed it in and out a few times and it sealed back up. Could be more serious i don no

You can get a Gasket Kit from a Bosch distributor cheap. It has everything in it you will need except how to do it. Part number is DGK 121. I replaced the seal on mine and found it to be a "very interesting" job.
