Im not sure I understand your question.
The Cummins engines that come in the Dodge trucks (24V 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen) are ISB.
If your interested in how the Cummins engine found in the Dodge trucks have evolved over the past decade or so.. check out:

Re:questions about the cummins

from what ive noticed on the cummins site, the ISB is available in different power ratings to suit different applications such as RV's, fire apparatus and our Rams.

kinda like a chevy c2500 van and a camaro, both use 350's but one makes alot more power

hope some of that helps (or even makes sense )

Re:questions about the cummins

The ISB series engine comes in a variety of flavors depending on their usage. One thing in common across the series is they top out around 2500-2600 rpm. The major difference with the ISB used in our trucks is the crankcase capacity has been reduced to just under 3 gallons instead of 4. I'm not positive, but I believe the hp in our trucks has been dialed back to take in account the transmissions being used.

Re:questions about the cummins

What you have just discovered is the exact reason that the Cummins in the Dodge is so well suited to bombing, much more so than the engines currently offered by the competition.

98.5-2002 is the ISB
2003-? is the ISBe

In any case and including the 12 valvers, the basic engine is already designed to handle A LOT more HP & torque. The weaknesses are in other areas of the truck and drivetrain.

Ahh, the joys of a medium duty truck engine.
