some history first, a few years ago I bought a 85 vw diesel golf and rebuilt the engine, it still smoked blue when cold and black when warm but ran well. A Detroit diesel mechanic friend of mine handed me a can of this:

and said NOT to pour it into the tank, but rather pop the fuel line off from the filter and since VW's suck there fuel from the tank and have no otehr pumps put the fuel line in the bottle and let it suck it dry, shut it off reattach the fuel line and let the car sit overnight with the purge in the injectors and pump. SO how do I do the same thing with my p pump dodge seen in the background of my vw video above? Wont the lift pump void any chance of getting 100% purge into the system?
Im sure my 12v is more carboned up than most as the previous owner worked for the rail yard and ran 5,000 ppm sulfur diesel

Some folks fill their fuel filter with injector cleaner when they change the filter.

I run my tank down to a quarter then put any additives in it at the pump before I fill up, that lets the pressure from the fuel pump mix everything. Unless you have an after market lift pump/filter system I don't see how you could use your fuel system to suck up the additive on your truck, its all high pressure lines and banjo bolts on these things.

Lift pump lines are 20-40psi - don't know if I'd call that "high pressure lines" but with a little prep-work, you could do just the same thing as on your VW. Make yourself a 4' jumper hose to go from the inlet of the lift pump into your can of cleaner. Then screw it into the inlet of the pump and you're away. You'll have to plug your tank line in the mean time so it doesn't gravity drain. You'd be pushing all the cleaner through your fuel filter this way, so might be a good idea to change it first and fill it with cleaner too.
I can't remember what the fitting is on the inlet to the lift pump. I know the pump inlet is pipe thread with a bushing in it but I can't remember if that bushing is also pipe thread or a barb or what....
