question about a spring in the tranny

I changed the fluid/filter and band adjustment on my tranny 2 days ago. On the drivers side there's a small tension spring, maybe 3" long, that goes to a small lever. Pardon my ignorance, but I'm sure many of you know what to call these, but I don't. Anyway, the spring was below the front band adjustment and was in the way when I was torqueing. I unclipped the spring to let it hang out of the way. Now I can't remember if I reconnected it. Would everything still work if it wasn't connected. I know it's horrible to have something like that dangling around in the tranny, but am wondering if I should take the pan off again. To make sure. It's kind of one those "did I leave the coffee pot on" scenarios.

There's a spring outside the tranny kinda by the front adjustment. I don't see what could be in the way of the front band screw that's inside the tranny pan. I believe there is a spring on a lever that's attached to the valvebody with an e-clip, and yes that needs to be there.

That is the throttle valve lever and the spring is there to pull the lever back to the start position which is where it rests at idle.

Hey thanks guys. Would the truck still run and shift correctly without the spring. Just wondering if I need to take the pan off again.

Run, sure would. Shift correctly, it should.

The spring you unhooked is external right? The front band adjustment is external, so I see no reason to drop the pan.

According to the info pack that came with my Goerend parts if the TV cable is not adjusted correctly Transmission damage can occur. Without the spring attached it can't be working correctly, so I'd put it back on asap.

Hey JD730 thanks a lot. I'm out of town til monday and I'm not sure if it was inside or outside. It was in the way of my fingers when I was screwing the locknut down and holding the other. I did both bands at the same time. Now that I think about it I think it's on the outside. Thanks a lot guys.
