Question about my new lift



what are the yellow things? is there something i could replace those with? would replacing them make for a smoother ride?

The "yellow things" are lift blocks, thats what gives your truck lift in the rear when you add a lift kit. The only other option to get rid of them is to go with new rear spring packs. The lift blocks will contribute to axle wrap, and with a diesel it will be noticable.


Friends don't let friends use lift blocks, and don't ever ever ever stack them, if one slips out, that'll put an end to your day real fast.

might be the pic- but the front u-bolt looks like it is bent. not a big fan of lift blocks- save your money and get some leaf springs

one more thing-isn't the shock mounted upside down?? or is that personal preference?? i mounted my bilsteins the other way.

Good call on the shock, most are mounted the other way. I've been told that the reason for this, if there are any bubbles in the shock fluid, it will be at the top of the shock body in the beginning of the stroke, no bubbles at the bottom where you need damping the most. Thats what i read somewhere or somebody explained it to me, cant remember, it was a long time ago.

Most of the time which way is up is stamped somewhere on the shock body.

I had the same Bilstein's with my old lift and they were mounted the other way. I've always heard to run the Bilstein 5100's body down/rod up.

I thought the shock was kind of a preference thing because there are many lifted trucks where i live a lot of the kids have the shocks mounted the way he does and i will see few that have it the other way. Mine are mounted the same way and i feel you on the blocks i hate the way they look. Thinking about taking it to my friend and putting it on his lift and take it apart and maybe paint them. Dont know if it will work but it is worth a shot.

Bilstein actually specifically states to mount them this way also.

Who put the lift on for you?

This place down the freeway in Montclair. I don't think the guy really took his time on my truck...that or he was trying to get back at me for complaining that i didnt get my truck the same day like he said I would, and that i complained that he charged me more than he quoted me on the phone

would adding more leaf springs make it way softer than it is now with those blocks on it?

the lift blocks give a "suspension" lift. body lift actually raises the body off the frame. You will need to buy the replacement springs for the lift amount you have. it is more safe that way and removes the block.

Blocks are still considered part of a suspension lift because the body of the truck is not being lifted away from the frame.

Adding more leaf springs will likely make the ride suffer unless you go to a full replacement pack. Then, the ride should improve.

You keep your stock load capacity using the lift block. Put some traction bars on it if you decide to keep them because the diesels will have some axle wrap with blocks. Take them off, paint them black at least. Mine were rusted like that the first day too.
