Question on EGT's
I don't have gauges (yet), but I had a question about EGT's. What kind of driving is it exactly that REALLY drives them up there? Is it low RPM's under load? High RPM's going down the highway? What's the deal??

Re:Question on EGT's
Under load on a hill and low RPMS will do it and so will a cracked or loose intercooler boot...drop in boost and HIGH egt.
Or WOT throttle and pulling a trailer past a DMax. ;D

You pretty much got it Hoss. But if you really want to know, get yourself a set of gauges. They're not only functional in letting you determine problems, but their also fun to watch.

Re:Question on EGT's
Hoss,
My EGTS dont get out of line until Im in third gear locked up pulling hard with it flat on the floor around 3000 rpms. They will hit 1400 pretty quick in that situation. If Im driving normal I very seldom see them above 1000. It all depends on how you are driving. If I take off from a dead stop and put it flat on the floor it will climb up to around 1200 when it shifts into 3rd lockup and then go on up to around 1350 when it shifts into overdrive. The EGTs are completely different for a standard tranmission. You can get some really high EGTs at low RPMs with a standard. Automatics will downshift before you can lug them so I dont see high EGTs until Im really mashing the pedal at higher rpms.
Hope that helps

Re:Question on EGT's
My egt's are their highest at low RPM's when the TQ locks up, especially when merging on a highway for instance, my egt's have never gone over 1200 deg. even w/ a trailer uphill( of course im not floored either )...Now that i see your sig. and that u have a 6-speed, you can just ignore this post

Re:Question on EGT's
the stock camshaft is only efficient to 2800rpms. anything after that sends egt's up very quickly. lugging will send the egts up high too if you're lugging it at around 1700rpms. 1100rpms lugging wont get the egts high enough because there's not enough air being pumped through.
