Question on battery charging in trailer

I just got a new/used hotrod trailer and it came with a power cord that the guy said just hooks to the positive on the battery. This cord comes out of the trailer plug and is supposed to just hook to the + on the battery. It would seem that the battery would get to an overcharge condition eventually. Is this how trailer batteries are hooked up?? I would think you need some kind of regulator.

I haven't had a chance to check but I'm pretty sure there is a 12 volt hot wire in my truck socket. I'm assuming the trailer plug uses this.

It works the same as RV batteries. The voltage regulator in the truck limits the voltage to the trailer battery.

If this trailers mission is to haul hot rods, is the 12v used just for the brakes & lights? You may also want to keep this bettery on a maintainer to keep the juice up.
