Question to all the POD users
Installed my 1st set of PODS from PDR. I like the power, and as we all know, they will blacken an intersection in a hurry. I installed these on my W250, and for comparisons as an FYI, they are more powerful than the BD 40hp that are on my D250, but the BD's smoke way less at WOT.
My question is on the injector washers that came with the kit. So far, every injector kit's instructions tell you to use the one's that closely match the washers on the OEM injectors, and in the W250 the OEM's were the thickest washers in comparison. So on those went. Did I do right? I thought I read somewhere that maybe another thickness size should be used instead?
After you POD guys answer that one, diagnose this one: when I popped out the #6 injector (using the PRED tool, I might add) I found a greenish goo along with condensation drops surrounding the entire injector from the tip up to the threaded portion. My 1st feeling is a head gasket leak, but my coolant level has never dropped, my oil looks good, and same with ATF. All fluids check OK. Sure enough, with the new PODS, that truck took off like it never had before, and sounds (at idle and at cruising speed) different, meaning, a lot better. Do you think I had a dead injector for all this time with #6? Thanks in advance, guys.

One more question on PODS
What pyro temps are you seeing, say at climbing a slight grade at WOT from a stop? Mine are jumping up to 1100, and cruising on flat at 65 I see 800-850. Is this normal for PODS?

I have a 5 speed and my temps are a little lower except when I really get on it. What kind of boost numbers are you running? I am running about 34 psi in 4th with egt's running up to 1200 under good load.

If you aren't having idle haze issues, the thick washers will be OK. Thin washers help get more of the pattern in the bowl for a cleaner burn at idle.

I used the thick ones when I first put em in and had alot ( too me at least) of haze. IIRC they were .060 thick, I swapped those for some .020`s and it helped the haze a noticable amount but it`s still there a bit. Can`t help ya on the egt`s/grade thing cause it`s pretty much flat as a plate around here, but mine runs about 700-800 or so at 65-70mph. Keep in mind my pump is almost unmolested, just a 90deg spin on the pin and a turn or so on the full screw. As an FYI, I have just begun using a fuel additive (last fillup is the 1st use so far)_ that has shown a touch more haze reduction, and a schooch more umph...jury`s still out on the MPG`s tho, oh, it`s also NOTICABLY quieter, especially @ part throttle cruise.I plan on posting about it in the near future.

On your reply, I have a slight haze at idle....fair exchange for the power at WOT

Is your pump cranked all the way to the head yet? POD's like timing.
Your numbers sound about right. I ran that combo for about 2K miles, then went further. The guy I sold the PODs and the turbo to absolutely loves them.

I am actually running the HY 9cm that I originally ran on my D250. I know you will probably flame me for this, but the spool up for a 4x4 is awsome, and my temps sounds the same as everyone on here using PODS with larger turbos anyway. My VE has the 3200 spring, and the power screw is turned 2x, along w/ the cone spun 180 for deep pin thrust.

My temps were hotter but the pump was turned up higher.
Shove the pump over to the head and put the thin washers in and you should lose the haze when the engine is warm. It will probably still haze good when cold.

Downside, the higher end is lost, and at continuous WOT it tends to choke off. So then I swapped the D250 for a Piers HX35 16cm hybrid, which doesn't have the low end spool up but is "just OK" on WOT continuous.
After I got the W250, which was originally meant for wheelin' in the woods, the HY went on. It actually runs better on the high end, probably because of the 4.10 gearing versus the 3.73 on the D250.
I am trying really hard not to advance the timing because both trucks are set up for propane in which I just transfer the tank from bed to bed. I am curious to see if a lot of the thick cloud from the PODS will go away with the propane because the pane will help to burn close to 100% of the fuel, turning more of the wasted fuel into power.
HY 9 cm can be had pretty much for free or cheap at most any of your local diesel performance shops, because those end up collecting dust after they are yanked out of the '99 to '01 automatics in exchange for twins, ball bearings, etc. I know dynomite diesel has them sitting around last time I checked a couple of years ago, and they might off them for a good price. If anything, they add a lot of fun or more fun in driving your already fun truck. Even Lenny at Dynomite said that is a very good changeover combo for around town driving. If you think about it, really, how often are you punching the truck to WOT for a long period anyway? (unless your truly on the racetrack!)

Bump your pump timming .187(+/-) this will lower your EGT's. I run with no pump mods just timming and POD's. I have been thinking of going to the thinner washers for the hazeing issue and to see if there is any power to be hadby doing so.

Winr, what kind of weight are you towing ? I pull a 25 ft. TT @ about 6500 lbs. Are you happy with pods and how is fuel mileage. That is my biggest concern along with more power. Augie Dog

how are you doing that? when I put my pods in, I had to give it more fuel just to get it to run right.
