I put the Xzillaraider on my truck last week. It appeared to work fine when first installed, but I'm having major problems with it now. When it got installed, I verified the light sequence on the box, and the light colors for the different settings. Now, I'm not getting any lights on the box and when I try to change the settings with the truck off, the lcd display shuts down. If I unplug the fuse for the power supply and plug it back in, the light comes on and then fades out, the lcd display comes on, sometimes stays on, and if you touch a button it shuts down.

I first noticed the problem after driving with the truck on setting 3. When I stopped driving and the truck was shut down, I tried to change to setting 2 and the lcd display cut out.

I've checked the connections several times, and everything seems fine-- except for that fuse tap that was sent with the installation kit. This is a real PITA for me because I'm now on vacation and didn't bring that bypass plug to run the truck without the xzillaraider, so after troubleshooting for a while, I decided to pull all the connectors for now.

Has anyone had problems like this with the xzillaraider? Anybody know what could be causing the problem?

I would try a new fuse tap. I wasn't real excited about the one that came with it either. They make a little copper strip that folds around the fuse blade and pushes into the fuse holder with it and then it has a terminal to put a spade on. I like the looks of that one better, but it tends to open up the fuse terminal and make it loose if you ever take it off.

Check your grounds too. You might want to run them to the battery.

Agreed, go to the battery, also you might want to look at where TST gets power for thier box, and make sure you have the exact fuse location taped that Quad recommends, good luck.

i grounded mine to the batt. and i used a better fuse tap

Thanks for the info guys. I believe I finally got this straightened out. In case it might help somebody else, I'll describe what happened to me.

I initially hooked up the Xzillaraider with wire and fuse taps provided in the kit. These provided very flimsy connections, which I believe caused the module to crap out. Talked to the guys at Quadzilla and they asked me to hook the module back up to check out what the lights on the module were doing, and then had me send it in for warranty. They tested it and sent me a new module...great customer service.

Now for the really bad part of the story. When I had the module on the truck when it was malfunctioning, my tranny started acting up. Researched it and found it was the apps sensor problem. Did the APPS reset, and the truck ran fine for a week, then started messing up again and APPS resets wouldn't work. Had to order a whole **** bellcrank unit to get the APPS sensor. I believe the flimsy tps wire tap helped it kick the bucket by possibly causing a short or something like that.

I get the new APPS sensor, cleaned all the grounds, cleaned battery terminals, cleaned pcm unit and added a ground wire from there to chassis, wrapped the alternator wire with foil and electrical tape, cleaned alternator (all the helpful hints from searching the forums). Truck runs great, shift problem fixed.

Now, I've got that new Xzillaraider sitting in the box and I'm not sure I want to risk screwing something up again by installing it on the truck.

Yesterday I decided I'd give it another shot. But this time install it right. First, lose all of those wire taps, and especially that fuse tap. Got a fuse holder from pepboys that piggybacks and gives you a fused 12v wire to hook up the module instead of trying to cram that fuse tap on the leg of a fuse and forcing it in to a slot. The connections for tps and injector pump wires got soldered and wrapped in electrical tape.

Truck runs great so far. Running the chip, even on the lower settings, makes the truck a blast to drive. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything keeps working the way it should. Now I just need to upgrade the tranny so I can really have some fun with that chip. Thinking about a better valve body?

That fuse tap will only give or not give power. Unless some of the wiring was touching ground, there is no possibility of a "short". And had there been a short it would have blown the fuse. Don't see it affecting the APPS. It's like anything, when you start raising the limits on anything you'll find weak or weakining parts. I don't like the fuse tap either and have changed mine to something different as well. Not trying to bash, just don't want anyone getting the wrong idea. I'm not saying the connection to the apps "couldn't" cause your plroblem, but it isn't very likely. The APPS is a very low voltage unit that doesn't bear any "load" voltage. Low amperage signals only, and shorting one or all of the wires would only turn the check engine light on. Glad you like the module, and good luck!

I don't believe the fuse tap contributed to the apps issue. It was the tps wire tap I was referring to. The wire tap was not making a full connection with the tps wire. It was very hard to break the sheathing on the tps wire, and if you slice the sheathing with something to make sure the wire tap is making full contact, the wire tap will be loose. I'm almost certain that the flimsy tps wire connection helped my apps sensor to die because after I removed the Xzillarainder and did the apps sensor reset, the truck was shifting fine. It was only until I hooked up the Xzillaraider, when the guy at Quadzilla asked me to check the led light and the lcd display before I send it back, that it was hunting for gears again.

I do, however, believe the junky fuse tap possibly caused a problem in the Xzillaraider module itself by providing weak/inconsistent power.
