when installing a boost gauge or a pyometer, what do you do about the shavings inside the manifold after drilling and tapping. would a simple magnet do the trick, or should you do more. I am planning on installing a set on my truck and i was looking for input. :D :D :D

grease the bit and tap real good, then use a magnet to do a sweep after the hole is finished and all is good, no problems
I did as HorseHauler did, and have not had any problems for over 30K miles. I used a magnet after I finished tapping the hole, got out some shavings. Take your time, it is worth it.

here is what I did , just tape up the exhaust pipe good and tight and run the engine while drilling for the tap. just be sure to wear a face mask when doing it. it blow out of there very well.

You can't tape up the entire pipe , the engine wont be able to run will it, you have to leave a little hole, right???

I did the same as John, just tape over the tail pipe with Arkansas sheetmetal (Duct Tape) and start the engine and start drilling. Wear eye protection and gloves, the metal shaving will be flying out of the hole at high velocity.
And yes, the engine will run.

if you taped the entire pipe off, it would just blow the tape out. 3/4 of the tailpipe taped off would be more than enough... [i did mine with nothing taped off and i had 5" pipes at the time of drilling]

I freaked on this for some time. Tape it up start your engine and drill. 15 min and your done and wondering why you thought it would be a problem. (Pre turbo)

taping off the whole exhaust will be no different then just turning on your exh. brake and warming up the engine , now dont try to drive on down the road , LOL , but at idles , just close up the whole pipe.
