Question Pyro question?

I was talkin to my buddy today and we were talkin gauges and he said that his pyro NEVER gets above 600 (post turbo), he has had it checked by 3 different shops and they all say it is reading acurate, but it dont sound right to me. his truck is a 98 24 valve stock turbo, 3 inch straight pipe, edge ez, and some 75 HP injectors. those temps are empty driving OR pulling around 10,000. Any suggestions or comments would be good, thanks.

Doesn't sound right to me either. Mine is post turbo and it's been to 900, but not over. If his probe is in the elbow, the tip should be near the center of the exhaust stream. Putting it in the downpipe will likely show lower readings.

With my pre turbo probe, a comp hooked up as an EZ, 4" straight pipe, and a K&N in the factory box, and I could barely get over 900. My post turbo gauge reads right around 650-700.

the more of these posts i read, the more i wonder how many people are running far more exhaust heat than they think. i have access to digital and infra-red meters so i can doube check my gauge against something, that's when i get the replacement, that is. i think it would be a good idea to compare your EGT against another meter once in a while just to be sure. the ctd you save could be your own. just a thought.
