I had a lot in my mind running around tonight and stopped and had 12.5 gallons of gas in my truck before I knew it. The tank was dead empty (maybe 2 gallons in it). I paid for my gas, cranked it up and pulled it across the street for a tow. It ran maybe 20 seconds.

What do you think? Will I expereience melt down? It ran and idled fine but I need some reassurance here.

i put 15 gallons in last year.

there is a yellow drain valve on the fuel filter, (to drain water) a long clear hose hanging down from it.

stick a 5 gallon gas can under there, stick hose in,
open valve.
cycle the key till you pump out ~10 gallons

go fill up with diesel.

no problems

FWIW i put in 15 gallons super, rest diesel, ~10 gallons diesel, and drove home, ~15 miles.

did it all at home.

do a search, someone does it all the time.

prolly kills algea in the system...

add a good bit of fuel additive to help with the loss of lube from the gas

If I did that and decided to drive it home I would definately add some oil. Add a few gallons of it. Not only for the lubrication but a cheap attempt to make the "average" more like straight diesel. I've run my other diesels on straight oil too, works fine. Gas must be brutal.

I've heard of putting ATF in the tank, but can't tell you for sure, hopfully someone can explain it more.

Do NOT put ATF in the fuel tank!
The additives in it are brutal to the pump and injectors.

If you HAVE to put oil in your fuel, use 2 stroke oil.
It's meant to be burned up in the cylinders.

FWIW, I pulled into a Flying J around back where the big rigs fill up. Assuming it was all diesel back there, I put 1.5 gallons of super unleaded in an empty tank before I noticed the BLACK handle and smallish nozzle, not a GREEN one with a big nozzle.

I called my dealer, they said to have it towed in and pumped out. I didn't like that answer so I called another dealer. They said to just fill it up with diesel and it would be fine, which I did and I never even noticed the difference.

Based on the replies above, I guess I shouldn't be surprised....

In very cold weather a gallon or two of gas per tank might be a very good thing to stop gelling. Before these electronic injection systems, diesels were very tolerant of different mixes in the fuel system. Now I'm so worried I'll do damage that I'm treating it like a gas engine where only one fuel is acceptable. One of my favorite fuels in the old Mercedes was waste oil. Mmmm, yummy
