Anyone ever do this? Looks to me like there is enough room in there if the grill inserts were taken out , and the lip on the the back of those holes was trimed away , and make new panels out of expanded metal mounted flush against the back of the grill hole ? Done some measuring and it looks like a couple a 12" ers would mount up against the condenser. My A/C comp sure would love them!

Well, got the fans installed with almost no issues. Found them on fleabay for 40 bucks. They are 12" x 2.7" and rated about 2000cfm for the pair. Only had to trim off 1 mount clip for each one of the trim inserts off of the back of the grill and one off of the back of the inserts. So here are some pics, assuming I can figure out how to upload them The back of the inserts will need a 1/4" trimed away from where they hit around the fan motor, but other than that it was a very easy install

I'll have more pics after I trim the 4 inserts but so far everything has bolted back up in the stock positions with no clearence issues! The a/c now works great at idle and cruise and I was able to put the lazy fan clutch back on

Thank you for showing how you accomplished this.

Now I know for sure that it can be done; of course, that never stopped me before.

Did you remove the mechanical fan from the front of the engine? And are just running the electric fans? Or are you running both?

yes , the oem fan and clutch are back on. Engine cooling was naver a problem but a/c condeser cooling always was, never got enough air flow over the condenser unless I was running down the highway. Yesterday in 114 deg traffic the a/c was putting out 40 deg air!

Well finally got to the grill inserts last weekend. The inserts were too thick and would not go back into the holes all the way witout hitting the fans, so I had to trim about 3/8" off of the back of the inserts, but with some patience, a die grinder with a cut-off wheel, and a belt sander table, I got it done, and there is 1/4" clearence between the grill and the fans

I still intend to do likewise to the wife's truck; but now, running with a pinned fan-clutch and that silly vacuum-operated heater-hose valve in the trash and a manual ball-cut-off valve in it's place, on the recent 100* days, she was seeing 30* at the vents.

Doing away with that heater-hose valve and replacing with a good manual valve made a tremendously huge difference in her A/C.
