Purring sound

This being my first diesel and all, I'm just curious about something. When I first start my truck and idle it for a minute I hear like this purring sound, not real loud but it is noticeable. It seems to be coming from like in the center of the console area up front. However, when it gets to operating temps, the purr is kind of really mellowed out to almost non existant. Is this a normal thing for these? Also, what is it. That's about as close as I can describe the sound. I am not concerned because the truck just runs. Just wanted to know what it might be. Thanks

Thanks. I was thinking lift pump. I guess it will be bad not to hear it . Just some of the sounds I'm getting use to. I guess since cool weather is here, I'll be hearing all sorts of new things.
