for those of you pulling doubles, what type of brakes do you have on your trailers and what brake controller? i just bought a 6x12 tandem utility trailer to put some quads on. it has brakes on one axle. just wondering if i can just run 7 wire to the back of the fifth and use the brake wire to power the brakes on the rear trailer? i have the prodigy brake controller, do i need a second one for the rear trailer??? it will be a total of three axles with brakes.

you can use one controller to power both trailers but i would recommend a sperate controller. that way if something goes wrong with the last trailer you can get it back where it belongs.

Also get another set of brakes on the 2nd axle on the tandem trailer. It'll make slowing it down MUCH more effective. I'm waiting for a little extra cash before I add a set to my flatbed. I don't use it much and when I do, I don't load too much weight on. I just like the extra margin for when I do load heavy.

As mentioned, it may be a good idea to add a 2nd brake controller for the 2nd trailer. At least you'll be able to control it independently if needed.

Check your controller as some will operate as many as 4 axles with brakes, I think your Prodigy will work, it tells you in the manual or try a search.

i've wired up a second prodigy. i found that the atv trailer brakes will lock up at 4.5 volts the rv takes 11 volts. the atv trailer only weighs 2100 # with 2 full size quads and my sons little 50. yes the prodigy does work with up to 4 axles. but when i found the different voltage desire, i decided to add a prodigy just for good measure.
