yesterday, friday, i went under the knife to have a little piece of titanium pulled out of my leg. i broke my femur two years ago when someone pulled out in front of me and i broadsided them at 60 in my S10. That's one reason I have my '96 now! Now i'm hangin out for a while with my crutches and lots of Vicodin. Here's some pics of the hardware...

Them screws look a lot like sheet rock screws!! (I have 6 smaller ones in my neck!!)

I always thought old people were making it up when they said it hurt when the weather changed. My entire lege ACHES really bad the day before it rains, almost without fail, and it's usually bad enough that I've got to take painkillers and sit down and rest frequently. I'm hoping removing this hardware will help that a little!

I always wondered about how the weather change affected people with hardware. Had a guy working for me that had pins in his back and I could always count on him to be in a real choice mood when the rain clouds would start rollin in. I thought it was just PMS ... (you had to know this guy) .

If you dont mind me asking, how did you make the arrangements to get it removed. Was it part of the insurance claim?? I have a rod in my arm and a plate on my forearm. I need to get them out starting to bug me, but worried my insurance wont cover it and or it has to be a really good reason to get the operation done. If you want you can pm the details, if you dont wanna post them. -Bob

The screws are because of something called stenosis. I had a nerve getting pinched in my neck that controlled most of the movement in my arm. Neurosugeon said if nothing was done I would loose at least some if not all of the use of my right arm. Needless to say I had the operation...........

Them crutches are not fun. Been on them for 1 month as of this Thursday. Hoping to be able to throw them away but got to talk to the Vet first. Do what the Doc says and maybe you will heal correctly.
That’s the reason I’m on these things, I did not heal right the first time. Most likely because I started walking a little too soon after surgery.

the only problem i had with insurance is that the surgery had to be performed at the hospital instead of at the doctor's surgery center at his office. It's an orthopoedic surgery center with a bunch of specialists and a VERY NICE surgery center, ins companies are wierd, especially blue cross, that's what I have. now, when he pulled the screws out of my knee about a year ago that was considered an office visit so he was able to perform that and be covered by my health ins.

my dr told me that since i'm young and active(snow ski, mtn bike, motorcycle etc...) that if i ever broke my femur with the rod in there i would most likely lose my leg as they'd have to take the bent rod out by sawzalling my femur into pieces. That was the main reason, the second reason is that he thinks my body is having enough of a reaction to the metal(the pain) that I'd be better off with it out.

you're dr should have a secretary or insurance person that knows what to ask or tell the insurance company to see if it's covered. you should definitely check it out and see if you can have it removed, i'm not sure why an insurance company wouldn't cover removing hardware, it's part of the recovery process for an injury.

i can get pretty cranky/short fused if i'm tired at all when the weather changes, there's just something about aches from injuries and maybe hardware that really wears you down and messes with your head. i get both knees, left femur and my hip when it changes(i was kinda squeezed together when the bed tried to touch the dash) it's really irritating and it bugs me that it changes my mood.

In reading the title, I thought someone whacked you with a golf club.

My bro-in-law has a rod in his leg from a car accident ~ 15 years ago. I think he still has it. My wife & I had just left for a weeks vacation in Maine. We checked in at the cottage and went out to dinner. When we got back, there was a note on the door for the Mrs. to call her parents.

"Oh, yea. This is good news" I said to myself.

Maybe when wanna be weather men go to school they should have titanium screws put in their legs. That way the forecasting would be more accurate.

One of the Cincinnati meterologists, Pete Delkus, shattered his leg and had a titanium rod in it....... most accurate forcast you have ever seen.... he now works for WFAA Dallas/Fort Worth....
