PTFE coating of pistons

Since I'm rebuilding my engine I'm contemplating getting my piston skirts coated with PTFE.
Anybody any experience with that kind of coating? Good, bad, insane?

Thanks!

If the coating is non-factory (these are Cummins pistons, correct?), then avoid PTFE if at all possible.

Instead, you need to get a coating like PolyMoly from SwainTech coatings. Imo, Swaintech is the leader in coating technology. Since your getting the skirts done, might as well have a thermal barrier coating applied to the piston crowns as well.

Hohn: Is this from experience? I've never heard about PolyMoly.
(I'd also prefer to be able to get that stuff locally)
I'm going to look into the thermal barrier for hte crown too.

Yes, I looked at that site, and I'd like to know more, too.

It's secondhand experience. A number of guys I have known that race everything from Karts to lawnmowers, Claimer circle track classes, and sportsman bracket racing swear by Swaintech.

I'm pretty sure than Dan Swain used to be head of coating research for GM. The guy is tops in his game.

When/if I replace my exhaust manifold, it will be getting the white header coating from Swain. Likewise for turbine housing.
