I will be adding tranny a temp gauge to my truck soon and had a question about the proper mounting location to take the reading. my origional plan was to locate it on the line going to the front cooler mounted in front of the intercooler. But this fluid has already passed through the heat exchanger that is cooled or heated by engine coolant.

Will this make a diffrence or do I put the sensor before the exchanger? Or another location all together?

Hot line coming out of the transmission going to the oil cooler.

This will show you the hottest temp the fluid is getting.

There is a line that came with the early 2nd gens that has a fitting built into it, Dodge still sells it, but stopped putting it in stock trucks after 1995 I believe.
I got mine from the Dealer (forget the part # though), but there are other sources for the line.

That's where mine currently is. Tony Garcin @ Dunrite was kind enough to check my rig out with his scanner. The temp seemed to show the same as the scanner did. Tony installed his in the pan. When I asked about everybody else putting it in the hot line he said "What you care about is whether the coolers are working or not (not plugged) and what temp your clutches are seeing." Made sense to me but I think you could figure out if the coolers plugged no matter where you put the sender. Seems to me a problem would show quicker on the hot line than in the pan but that's just my thoughts. I'm thinking I will put 1 sender in the pan, another right at the outlet in the hot line and toggle between the 2.
