Q. How can I upgrade Smarty?

A. The upgrade operation is possible only on Windows based computer.
First at all when you connect Smarty to the computer you don't need to press any key on Smarty, you will use only the
computer keyboard or mouse.
Only the first time you have to download and install:

7-zip program

download it from 7-zip web site: www.7-zip.org

software driver

CMD_2.00.00.zip for Windows XP or D30104.zip for older Windows versions
Windows Vista finds automatically the correct driver if an internet connection is available

SmartyUSB program

or SmartyUSBL, for older Windows version. This program doesn't need any installation, just run it

Every time, you have to:

download the preferred Smarty update file (which has the extension ".7z" )

extract the update file opening it with 7zip program (it will have the extension ".Smt" )

hook up Smarty to the USB port and run SmartyUSB program clicking on its icon, press the "Send" button and
select the extracted update file

If this fails because of no FTD2xx driver available, then you must go back to the CDM 2.00 folder and click on
the ftdibus.cat file, which will prompt extracting the .inf driver file (actually all files - click okay).
After that, unplug and plug in Smarty again, follow the USB driver instructions and point to the CDM 2.00 folder.
The installation utility will find the driver .inf files and complete the driver installation. Now you can click on the
SmartyUSB icon.

ok, i think i need this explained to me from the beginning. i can't load up the usb driver for the smarty. i have it saved to my desk top, and i can't figure out how to install it, i plug in the smarty, and it doesn't reconize it, and vista tries to install something else from microsoft.
i went throught the madds site, and unhooked my internet, but i can't seem to install the driver. why do they make this so hard for us not too into computer types.why can't the smarty just come with a driver cd to be installed???
i might need to send this thing out to get what i need installe for my truck.

vista don't like to work like windows so I would try downlaoding your driver from windows and see if that works before you sent it out.

my problem right now is that i can't seem to command the computer to install the driver that i have down loaded. anybody know how to do that?
i though if i unplugged the internet, it would ask me to find a program to install, but the computer still found a driver, which was a mass storage driver, and thats not the right driver. i have it saved to my desk top so its easy for me to find. if i knew how to bypass everything and make it load up the driver i need that would get me started.

can anyone walk me through this reloading the smarty program???
i can't seem to make this work. its locked to the previous owner, who had a special program.
i can't seem to get the computer to find the smarty file.
i have down loaded 7zip, and the usb driver, and the file i want.
i have put them to the desk top, so i can find them easy.
so i figure when i have the smarty plugged in, the first thing that should pop up is the driver for the smarty, or am i wrong??
if i plug the smarty into the computer, nothing happens, so i click on the usb driver and it comes up with a window saying send, i click on the and i try to find the file, but it won't let me.
i have tried this over and over. vista, and XP
i need help, or i need to sell this.
