Programming a Sentry Key.

So I lost the key to my truck 500 miles from home quite some time ago, I had it towed to a dealer and a new key cut and programmed.

However, I'm told that my old spare key will no longer work and needs to be programmed to work with the remote door locks as well as the security system (IE Old key will no longer start truck)

Is their a way that I can reprogram the old key to work?

You MUST have two working keys to do it yourself, instructions are in the owners manual. Your only choice will be to have a dealer reprogram your spare. Check around if you have several dealers in your area they might give you a break.

Once you have two keys you can buy blanks have them cut and program them yourself. I bought three spare blanks off EBay and my dealer cut them for free. They all work great. I have been using the news for a couple years and the orignals are locked away at home.

I do not know if once a Key is assigned a code it can be re-programed. I also purchased a key off of ebay and the dealer could not program it for my truck, it had already been assigned to another vehicle. I repeated it with another key and a different dealer and the results were the same... So in short I got ripped off from the ebay dealer. Ebay key dealer kept telling me he had sent a replacement until the time for me to give him an unfavorable had passed.
PM me if you want the company name.

Wow, that really sucks.

I'll call my friend who works at one of the dealers and see if she can check it out for me.

Thats BS. You don't actually program the keys at all. The keys come all ready coded and you program the truck to accept the key. As was said earlier you need two keys already programed to your truck to program another yourself.

An old key that was already working with your truck should still work UNLESS the dealer deleted all the old key ids. This would prevent a stolen/lost key from working in your truck. However if you just lost it and find it again you should be able to go thru the program sequence again to get it to work again(provided you have two working keys...)

I bought a key fob and security key off ebay and had no problem setting them up on my truck.
