Programmer

Hey guys,
New guy here. Sorry to be asking something that has been beat to death! I am about to buy an 06-07 crew cab with in the next 2 weeks. Its mainly going to be used as a daily driver with some 4 wheeler hauling and trailer towing. We have allot of snow here so the 4x4 will be used allot for our deep wet snow.

My main reason for wanting a programmer is for MPG and performance second. I have done allot of reading here and I am stuck between the smarty jr or sr, the quadzilla adrenaline or a bully dog. The reason I put bully dog in there is I have one in my 2005 Hemi and I love it! Gauges are a MUST for me so if I go for a smarty I will need gauges.

If I run a smarty can I run a bully dog or something like it for the gauges with out affecting the smarty programming? Being able to program on the fly is a big plus to me. I like digital gauges such as the bully dog has just because thats what I am use to on my Hemi.

Thanks

Matt,
Welcome to the DTR.

I had an edge when I first got my truck, and I did not want to go away from the on the fly program changing... but once I got my smarty, it was perfect, no need to change on the fly. The only time I really mess with it is when I tow heavy.

I recommend the smarty hands down. You'll have to get gauges with it, but I think it's worth it.

I don't think you can run the BD and the smarty, they are both ECM programmers, vice signal interceptors like an edge or quad.

I don't have any firsthand BD experience, so maybe someone else will chime in, but this forum is a pretty big smarty forum.

hth... mad

Don't waste your time, Get a Smarty and some gauges and be done. Either Jr. or Sr. will be fine. All depends on what your future plans are. If it is just decent power gains and mileage gains, stick with the Jr. If there are plans for bigger HP larger injectors etc... Sr. is the way to go.

Thanks for the replys!!! What all do I need to monitor with gauges? How hard are gagues to hook up? I like the idea of digital gagues just because all i have to do is plug them in.

EGT, Fuel pressure, rail pressure and boost at a minimum.

Even if you get digital gauges, you can't plug and play EGT or fuel pressure, and I wouldn't trust a MAP boost reading.

If you have some mechanical knowledge, it's not too bad. You'll have to drill and tap your exhaust manifold and intake horn, and cut your fuel line and add a T or get a new fitting for the CP3 that is already tapped.

You can also get a boost bolt to avoid tapping the intake horn. But you will need to drill and tap the exhaust manifold for EGT. Several threads on here about doing it. If you take your time you will be fine.

Alright thanks!! I like the piler gauge setup. But the ones I see only have 3 slots. Where do you guys put your third gauge?

there are pods that go on top of your dash, overheads, in the storage bin under your stereo, pretty much anywhere that they will be visable from the driver seat someonw makes a pod mount to go there
