Most folks here will say Smarty. I love mine. There are a bunch of folks who swear by the Bullydog. They love theirs too. I guess you could read on the SAC Sm. anon. club and the Bully anon club and see what they say.

What he said, threads like this always end up turning into a Smarty vs BD battle.

Best for what? What are your goals? What other mods do you have or plan to install? Without that information, any recommendation would be suspect.

It's like asking, "I need to fix my truck, what tool do I use?"

He does have a point.
Also FS, fill out your signature so we know what kinda truck you have, what mods you've done so far. You definately might want to get some gauges before adding a programmer if you don't have them already.

I have heard from several mechanics that work on hotshoters trucks around here all the time that because of how backwards mopar/chrysler elecronics are run, and all the info is sent and recieved...they favor the Bully Dog electronics a little better...seems to be more favorable and mesh better with the electronics on the truck already. Just what I've heard, I haven't run either, I've had an edge...wasn't pleased at all. I'm gonna be trying either the Smarty or BD on my 06 though. I only have an HTTurbo, and DDP injectors so far. And other fun stuff lol.

I wouldn't give banks the satisfaction of even looking into them. I know 2 guys that are constantly having problems with banks. A lot of down time. One of the guys the whole truck just shut down while towing his 5th wheel.

That's interesting, people on the Smarty side of things are always saying BD screws up the ECM and all kinds of terrible things.

Banks¿? Anyone still use Banks?

On an 06 or 07 I would run Bully dog hands down over any other programmer on the market the power can't be beat especially with crazy larry on a DYNO versus others (ask how i know). Especially with the PMT being adjustable on the fly with out having to hold any buttons down while driving and only having to download ONCE and then you have 3 different tunes to select from on the fly and the settings are tow, performance and extreme.....by the way the dyno results on a STOCK truck with fuel system are as follows TOW = 325hp, PERFORMANCE = 405hp and EXTREME (crazy larry version) = 510hp these numbers were done on an 07 truck the 06 had similar numbers.

It also has 20 parameters you can monitor on your truck, you can also set defuel settings to PROTECT your truck if you want too also. It also has custom features like low end fuel, brights and fogs at same time, high idle, horn chirp, seat belt alarm disable......and the list goes on and on and on.

If you had an 03-04 cummins i would tell you to buy a smarty but you don't.

If you had an 05 i would tell you to bully dog even the PPE makes more power by a hair.

Good luck to you and your choice......every company makes quality products which is the good thing for us consumers. I have tried just about everything and this is my opinion. Pm if further info is needed

Love you all.

I wish Wyo, with just Crazy Larry and a boost fooler I made 443 HP on my 06 on a Mustang dyno known to be frugal. I wish I had 510...

I'm just gonna express an opinion I've seen for a long time. The companies that spend big bucks hyping their product up get alot of glory. The small companies that don't advertise nearly as much build a stronger clientel of die hard supporters. That being said, I don't think a normal mechanic would have even heard of Smarty. But hey, they also don't know about all of BullyDogs prior ECM failure histories, which may be resolved now, but was definitely an issue in its time. I also hear my local dealer hype up Banks and how they are the best in the biz. Those are the ppl looking at pictures in the newspaper instead of reading the info.

My advice as regards to a programmer is to look at all that are available, look at what price you want to pay and narrow it down, then research each one you would seriously choose. Look for problem issues, what was involved, and responses in customer service. Everyone here can tell you this is better than that but it all really amounts to what your standards are. You can also just browse around the forums and look at everyones sigs, its there to let ppl know what they run and support. You can find alot of info.

The programmer I read least of all about when it comes to problems is the Smarty. It's also advertised to be invisible when removed and truck is restored to stock. The most problematic on the 3rd gens seems to be the Banks stuff.
